Mistake Visible crew/equipment: After the main characters have entered the mall through the skylight, and have gone down the stairway in order to secure the mall, Scott Reineger and Ken Foree open the door into the corridor leading to the control room and boiler room. Whilst walking through said doorway, there is movement in the shadows in the top left. This has to be a crew member, as the only other zombie that is in this area is in the boiler room.

Mistake Continuity: When a zombie's head is held up in the truck to be shot, there is a big splatter of blood down on the face of the soldier. He wipes a very small amount of blood off, but when he gets into the other truck he is perfectly clean.

Mistake Continuity: When the old car blows up both of the dead zombies are gone.

Mistake Visible crew/equipment: When Roger hits the zombie with the truck, notice at the bottom right a trampoline in which the zombie jumps off.

Mistake Other: In the aerial shots of the semis being driven in the mall parking lot, the zombies are milling about. Notice they have left a path just clear enough for the truck.

Mistake Continuity: When the Sweater vest zombie first goes up to the 2nd floor he appeared coming up to the 2nd floor moments later.

Mistake Continuity: Peter and Roger are attempting to hold off some approaching zombies while trying to get the door to Penny's shut. Peter then throws his gun and the keys into the store. In the very next shot he is trying to pull the same keys out of the lock on the door.

Mistake Continuity: When Roger and Peter are blocking the entrances with the trucks, Roger kills a zombie with a long beard that is walking towards him between the trucks. Later on in the movie, we see the same zombie, in the same clothes, outside the doors, trying to get in.

Mistake Visible crew/equipment: When the two kids in the airport attack Peter and try to bite him, notice in the top right corner a crewmember's hand comes into shot.

Mistake Factual error: When they are refuelling the helicopter (as a zombie approaches quietly from behind) the actor has put the gas nozzle not into the hole for the gas tank, but into one of the foot-holes that helicopter mechanics use to climb up to the top of the helicopter to do repairs. It doesn't even fit properly.

Mistake Revealing: When the bikers are grabbing their weapons, we see a grenade. You can tell that it is fake because the bottom is bored out.

Mistake Continuity: When Stephen shoots a zombie clinging onto the car, whilst driving off there manages to be a streak of blood in front of the zombie where the previous take took place.

Mistake Continuity: In the beginning of the movie at the TV studio, Peter tells Fran that they are meeting at 9:00 to take a helicopter out of town. When they take off in the helicopter and fly away, there is a giant digital clock on a building in the background that reads 6:00.

Mistake Continuity: When the bikers are in the mall, a zombie is killed next to a teepee. Another zombie is pushed into the teepee knocking it over. As it falls, you can see the first zombie starting to roll out of the way.

Mistake Continuity: At the TV station, when Fran takes control of the camera, notice a man with a sweater and a beard behind her, but in the very next scene the same man appears with a different shirt on.

Mistake Revealing: When Peter shoots the door the first round goes through, but the second shot just shows a flash of light behind the piece of paper on the door and never goes through.

Mistake Revealing: When Peter (and Steven) are locking all the doors, Roger gets his rifle from the back of the car and shoots a zombie. Even though the bullet goes into the side (two-inches away from the middle of the zombie's head) a small amount of blood shoots out the middle, and something at the edge breaks off/moves, revealing that it's a tomato sauce sachet stuck to the actor's head.

Mistake Visible crew/equipment: When Peter is shooting through the door a hand can be seen in a few frames.

Mistake Continuity: Near the end, Steven is in an elevator, and the zombie opens the doors and starts biting him. When he gets them all out of the elevator, blood comes out of his mouth and down the right side of his face. But later the elevator doors open and Steven is a zombie and the blood is on the left side of his face.

Mistake Revealing: In rural airport scene, when Peter reloads his weapon, he pulls a small, narrow magazine out of the bottom of the m16 mag, thus indicating that the weapon he's using is some sort of lightweight 22LR copy of m16 assault rifle, not an actual m16.

Mistake Continuity: When the raiders first arrive at the mall which is surrounded by zombies, the zombies are standing on the curb waving their arms and standing still like a receiving line. Every other time, they attack, but not in this instance.

Mistake Continuity: After parking the first truck in front of the mall doors, Roger jumps out and runs towards Peter's truck. Notice the zombie wearing the red and black striped rugby shirt. After Roger runs past him, he breaks zombie character and becomes concerned about his shirt being tucked in.

Mistake Continuity: After the doors are closed, all the remaining zombies are exterminated. In several shots we see prone bodies with puddles of blood around the head. Later, when they are cleaning up the bodies, there are no blood pools around any of them.

Mistake Continuity: When they stop to refuel the helicopter at the abandoned gas station, a zombie approaches from under an airplane. In one shot, it is holding onto the wing support next to it - in the next shot, the zombie is standing in front of the support with its hand at its side.

Mistake Continuity: When Peter and Stephen are locking the glass doors to the mall, you can see reflections of the cameraman in the glass.

Mistake Revealing: When Steven is trying to climb out the elevator after having been shot, a group of zombies attack him and the first zombie we see bites his leg. In this closeup of Stevens' leg being bitten, the tube that pumps out the blood is protruding out his trousers, obviously leading up his thigh.

Mistake Revealing: The female zombie grabs onto the back of the car and is dragged through the mall. Steven shoots the zombie in the eye and if you look closely you can easily see this is no longer the woman from before, but actually a man who doesn't resemble her at all.

Mistake Visible crew/equipment: During the ghetto holocaust at the beginning, when Willie kicks open the last door (before Peter kills him) you can see the camera's shadow on the door as it swings open.

Mistake Visible crew/equipment: After Rodger says, "Lets go, baby. Number 2" and closes the truck door, you can see part of a crewmember reflected in the window.

Mistake Revealing: When Peter shoots the biker out the sidecar there is already blood on the ground before he lands.

Mistake Factual error: Towards the end, the bikers are riding out of the mall, and Peter shoots one biker out of his sidecar. 1. The biker seems unaffected despite being shot through the arm with a rifle. 2. He picks up his tommy gun (notorious for powerful recoil) and starts shooting with his torn arm. Not only is this impossible, but he doesn't even wince. 3. There is nothing in front of him to shoot, and he knew there were some behind, as he got a look around when he fell off the bike.

Mistake Revealing: When they lock the mall doors using the car, Peter is giving cover fire while the doors are being locked. Notice when the camera cuts to one of the shots from the scopes point of view he blows a zombie's head off and the blood splatters on the scope and is visible when the zombie drops.

Mistake Deliberate "mistake": When the zombie (Tom Savini) is hit by a truck and spits a bunch of blood on the windshield, when he gets hit, the truck isn't moving at all. He runs into the car and spits blood to simulate being hit. It's hard to catch, but it's more obvious in slow motion. (Mentioned on DVD commentary.)

Mistake Continuity: Watch when Sledge swings down from the balcony. In one quick shot, we see that there are two zombies in front of the store "Carlton's." When the shot changes to show Sledge landing, a third zombie has appeared from nowhere.

Mistake Continuity: The zombie that attacks the helicopter at the gas station loses the top of its head to the spinning rotor, causing gouts of blood to flow down its front. In the shot as it falls over, the blood has miraculously stopped flowing and is now a dry stain.

Mistake Continuity: Early in the movie, Peter enters the basement and has to exterminate zombies in a cage. He fires seven bullets from a six-chambered revolver without reloading.

Mistake Other: At the small airport after the heroes flee Philly, Peter walks into the office and is startled by a sound beyond the door. Thinking it is a zombie, he begins to fill the door with holes, about five of them. On the last shot, the door merely chips and does not leave a bullet hole. This can only be seen in the DVD version.

Mistake Continuity: Immediately after the three men close the first door, when they are driving away Flyboy can be seen in the trunk aiming a handgun. It cuts to his face and he's holding a radio, talking to Fran.

Mistake Revealing: A zombie's make-up is smeared when Steven is fighting with it on the grass at the refueling scene. Steven is pushing the zombie's head back and the make-up on his forehead is wiped off.

Mistake Continuity: When Peter has just killed the child zombies and another with a messed face is in the doorway, we see Steven outside aiming a rifle and it is cloudy, dreary weather. Peter dives out the way and lands by a window and we see that it is now pitch black, then Roger steps in and shoots the zombie from outside and it's only just overcast.

Mistake Continuity: When Peter and Roger enter the Penney's store, Peter throws his M16 and the keys inside the store before he starts to close the door, yet Peter's rifle (Roger is holding his M16) can be seen propped against the wall outside the door twice in the following shots.

Mistake Continuity: Just after the raiders manage to get into the mall, one raider uses his sledgehammer to knock a zombie wearing a black t-shirt off his feet. 5 seconds later, the same zombie can be seen walking past the same raider.

Mistake Continuity: After the four arm themselves, they go to raid Penney's. As Peter and Roger roll up with the wheelbarrow, Francine shoulders her rifle. There is a cut and she shoulders it again.

Mistake Visible crew/equipment: In the rural airport scene a zombie is killed as Roger is filling the helicopter with fuel. As the zombie falls off the boxes, the tubing that pumped the blood is coming out of his pantleg. (From the Divimax widescreen DVD)

Mistake Other: During the truck scene, when zombies attack Roger the first time, as Peter shoots the zombie that Roger is fighting, he supports his M16 from its carrying handle, thus blocking the rear sight (which is located in said handle). He does this in several scenes throughout the movie, but in the truck scene accuracy is crucial.

Mistake Revealing: When the SWAT team breaks the door in the basement and all the zombies escape, the SWAT team member to the far right is laughing.

Mistake Revealing: When Steven first approaches Fran, who's manning a television camera, he says "meet me on the roof at 9 o'clock. We're getting out in the chopper". She replies "What? David we can't", thus referring to the character, Steven, by the actor's real name (David Emge).

Mistake Continuity: In the scene right after Francine is attacked by a Hare Krishna zombie, they are sitting, drinking and watching TV. When Roger is about to throw the bottle to Peter, he is sitting down, in the next shot after Peter gets the bottle, he is standing up and about to sit down.

Mistake Continuity: When the bikers are stealing the zombie's wallet notice Blades in the background cheering his buddy on while just standing next to a zombie.

Mistake Continuity: When the raiders enter the mall you see Blades (Tom Savini) enter the mall and run around, although when it shows the bikers outside the mall Blades is sitting on top of the red van.

Mistake Continuity: When Peter and Roger are looting one of the stores, Peter brings out the two wheeled cart, which is aluminium colored first. After the shot where Steven is shown in the basement, the cart is now lime green.

Mistake Plot hole: At the beginning when the SWAT team breaks through the door in the basement and all the zombies escape they don't attack the SWAT team they just run up the stairs.
