X-Men 2 (2003) - 61 mistakes

Continuity: In the end, when the President is visited by the X-Men, he receives a blue binder, which is laid in front of him on the table. When they have left, you see a shot including the President's desk, and you can see that the only thing he has on the table are some sheets of paper, stapled in the upper left corner, opened up. Then the shot changes to a close-up of the President, and then back again, and you see the blue binder in front of him, closed, and the papers have disappeared.

Continuity: When Wolverine attacks the SWAT member in the Mutant Academy kitchen while Iceman takes cover, there's a spot the difference competition between the start and end of the gunfight. After a second or two there are bullet holes in the back wall, the Dr. Pepper's been knocked over, the basket's gone from the corner of the table, and the chair at the right is maybe a foot from the corner. When we cut back, the bullet holes in the wall have changed position, the Dr. Pepper's righted itself, the basket's back on the corner, and the chair's now much closer to the edge. All this while Iceman's hiding and Wolverine and the gunman are fighting each other.

Continuity: When Magneto kills the soldiers outside Cerebro 2 their bodies are left all over the place. But when Nightcrawler, Storm and the rest of the X-men come to the same place the bodies have disappeared.

Revealing: In the scene where Storm and Nightcrawler rush to rescue the children from the holding cell, you see a shot of the cell where the children stand up and say "Listen..." before Nightcrawler teleports inside. If you look carefully, you will see Nightcrawler's silhouette in the shadow against the wall.

Deliberate "mistake": Almost trivia, but not quite. When Mystique's looking through the guard files to find a suitable candidate, lots of photos flash up very quickly before she finds the guy she uses. Of note is that Bryan Singer pops up in guard uniform (with his own name), and so does someone called "Donner, L". This is most likely referring to Lauren Shuler Donner, one of the producers, and sex is specified as "F", but the photo is of a stubble-coated man.

Continuity: When Wolverine, Rogue, Bobby and John are in Bobby's house and are talking to his parents, his dad says to Wolverine "What are you a professor of?" Just after this the camera cuts to an overhead shot, there is a solid orange pillow at Bobby's brother's side, but in all following shots the solid orange pillow has vanished and is replaced by two striped pillows.

Continuity: When Bobby gives Rogue the clothes, it's shown that she is not wearing a bra. But when she is draining John's power later, a bra strap is visible on her shoulder.

Continuity: When Wolverine is fighting Deathstrike, Wolverine lands on a steel-like platform hanging over the water tank. When Deathstrike gets underneath and starts stabbing Wolverine, she is on his left side, yet when the camera cuts to a view from underwater looking up, she is on his right side.

Continuity: When the SWAT team are inside the mansion, Logan jumps down to save Rogue Bobby and John, and he chucks two guys back some distance. In the overhead shot, the four SWAT guys are together on the floor, instead of two of them being some distance away like we saw in the previous shot.

Other: When the X-Mansion is being attacked, Wolverine jumps off the stairs onto two soldiers and throws them backwards with his claws. The soldiers are level with his wrists as they begin flying back. If they had been thrown in such a way, they would have followed the same path through the air as Wolverine's claws.

Continuity: When Grace (Mystique) walks up to the guard of the plastic prison and sits down opposite him, she puts down two beers on the table and puts her hands to her chest. In the following shot her left hand is still on the beer glass.

Continuity: When we see Logan enter the mansion and Rogue comes to greet him, Iceman is standing just behind Rogue, then the camera cuts to a front view, and Iceman is now shoulder to shoulder with Rogue, then it cuts to the back again, and he is back behind Rogue.

Revealing: Towards the end, when the mutant children are running through the snow, Artie (the green-tongue boy) isn't really bare-foot, he's wearing coverings that protect his feet from the snow.

Continuity: When Nightcrawler is inside the Oval Office, he jumps on the President, and the President's leather chair changes direction between shots.

Continuity: When they show a shot of the captured children in the cell, all of the children are barefooted, but when they show the children running in the snow after escaping the dam, a few of them are wearing brown slippers. When did they get a chance to put those on?

Continuity: Near the start in the museum, when Pyro is asked for his lighter and refuses, watch him playing with his lighter. One shot shows the top flipped open away from him, but when the angle changes it's facing towards him. There's no time it's out of shot for it to move.

Continuity: In the beginning when we see Nightcrawler get past the metal detectors, in the first shot we see him standing still next to a striped bench. The following overhead shot, the bench is now completely red with no stripes.

Continuity: In the museum scene at the beginning when Iceman freezes the guy on the floor, you can see a guy standing beside him with jeans and red boots on. The shot goes back to the guy on the floor and the one who was standing beside him is now standing behind him.

Continuity: When Wolverine handed the bottle of Dr Pepper to Bobby, he was holding the body of the bottle. But when the shot changes to show Bobby taking the bottle, Wolverine was holding the bottle neck.

Continuity: When Mystique is looking around in Stryker's computer, she notices a folder marked "Cerebro", next to the "Delete" icon on the screen. However, when she opens the folder, we cut to a wide shot and the icons around the delete icon have renamed themselves, plus the cerebro folder itself has disappeared.

Continuity: Close to the beginning of the film when we see Wolverine approach Cerebro, you can see him from the back entering Cerebro from the left, yet on the face shot he is entering Cerebro from the right.

Other: In the scene where the mutants are confronted by the police on Bobby's front porch, there is a male officer to their right and a female officer to their left. If you watch, you will notice they are aiming their guns directly at each other.

Continuity: In the scene where Wolverine is talking to Stryker in the mansion corridor, Bobby creates an ice wall between them, including the wall. Shortly afterwards when they leave and Bobby takes his hand away, the wall suddenly has no frost on it at all.

Continuity: When Cyclops knocks Lady Deathstrike down with his beam at the plastic prison of Magneto and she gets back up, her eyes are blue with the contacts. However, when she flies through the air and pins Cyclops against the wall, her eyes are their natural color, brown.

Visible crew/equipment: Right after Cerebro begins to kill all the mutants, Mystique gets down on her knees in pain and tells Magneto to hurry. The next scene is a shot of Stryker running down a corridor and opening a door to go outside. Before he opens the door, you can see the shadow of a crew member going across the door.

Continuity: When Wolverine is first seen, the camera pans along a barbed wire fence which is almost straight, yet in another shot, all the barbed wire is broken off the fence or is hanging down from it.

Audio problem: Right before the jet fight, Logan asks Storm "How far are we?" He says this line in his natural Australian accent.

Continuity: In the scene where Stryker is walking through the tunnel in Alkali Lake, a drop of water drips onto his glasses thereby alerting him to the breaking of the dam. He examines the drop on his lens, but when he puts his glasses back on, the lens is dry.

Continuity: When the X-men ship is trying to dodge the rockets, there are a few close-ups of Bobby showing that the seat in front of him is empty. In other shots before and after the close-ups of Bobby, it shows that Rogue is sitting in that seat.

Continuity: At the beginning of the film in the museum scene when we first see Pyro and Iceman, there is a man with a green sweater that is sitting behind Iceman. In the next shot he's sitting beside him, then is behind him in the next shot. You can also that in one shot he is looking in Pyro's direction but in the next shot, he isn't.

Continuity: When Xavier is in the plastic prison with Magneto, at the end of this scene, you see Xavier put his hands on the doors of the prison, but in the following shot from outside the prison his hands have changed positions on the doors.

Revealing: On the DVD, in the shot where Nightcrawler is hanging upside down while eavesdropping, you can see part of the harness at his waist and part of the wire that is suspending him in the tree. Look near his elbow.

Revealing: In the part where Mystique (as Grace) and the guard are in the bathroom, right after the guard drinks the rest of the beer and passes out, Mystique turns him over and you can see the guard move his right leg to steady himself even though he is suppose to be knocked out.

Continuity: During the mansion invasion scene, Wolverine jumps from the balcony level. He drops onto one knee, and stabs two soldiers with his claws. He then stands up and throws them off. In the shot from behind once he's thrown them he's still part crouching, but in the very next shot from the front, he's fully upright.

Continuity: When Wolverine returns home to the Xavier mansion, Rogue greets him, they talk, and when Jean arrives Rogue leaves them alone. In one shot Rogue's hair is over her left shoulder running down her chest, but in the following shot all of her hair is at the back.

Continuity: In the scene where we see the X-Men and Magneto inside the jet at Alkali Lake, they are going over a map of the base, the camera cuts to Nightcrawler and Pyro, in this shot we see Pyro with his hands behind the head rest not visible, yet in the following shot his hands are now visible above his head, then the shot after back to being behind the head rest.

Continuity: When Wolverine is in the schools kitchen with Iceman, you see Iceman point to a cupboard. If you watch closely between shots Iceman's finger changes from being a little limp and pointing down, to being straight and pointing up.

Continuity: When we see Logan in Cerebro with Professor Xavier trying to find Nightcrawler, Xavier's metal hat in one shot is completely covering his ears, yet in several shots after it's not covering his ears and the hat is a lot looser.

Continuity: When Jean and Storm first meet Nightcrawler and hold him upside-down in mid-air, his cloak hangs down ("up" by his viewpoint) in the shots facing him, but in the shots facing Jean and Storm his cloak is not hanging down (so we can see the two of them).

Continuity: When Wolverine is tramping through the snow to Alkali Lake, you get a long shot of him looking at a wolf with the sides of his hair are styled so they're sticking up at least three inches. After he goes through the gate, his hair is totally flat.

Continuity: When the SWAT team raid Xavier's mansion, a SWAT member walks into the kitchen where Bobby is but Wolverine grabs him which causes him to fire. The napkins on the table get shot at, then fall onto Bobby who is kneeling down behind the kitchen table, but in the following shot they are falling down again.

Continuity: Near the start Logan is inside Cerebro with Xavier and Xavier turns to talk to him. The chair he's sitting in doesn't go any higher than the top of his back, yet a few shots later, the chair is now above his neck.

Continuity: This is on the DVD. When Storm and Nightcrawler rescue the children Storm shouts "Jubilee" but the subtitles have her name as being "Julie".

Revealing: In the beginning of the movie when Wolverine puts the cigar out in his hand, you can see the mark of a wedding ring on his ring finger (Hugh Jackman is married). Even if Wolverine got married during the "blurred" bit of his memory so doesn't remember it (tenuous at best), his healing ability would have removed any ring mark. Either way it just doesn't belong.

Visible crew/equipment: When Magneto and Xavier are speaking inside the plastic prison , look to the right of Xavier's head when Magneto says something about "failure with Stryker's son". There is a partial view of a piece of some kind of equipment moving around lightly reflected in the glass. It's definitely not one of the actors by it's shape.

Continuity: When Mystique (as Dr. Jean Grey) tries making out with Wolverine, we see that the scars that Wolverine made in the first film are vertically across her stomach. But in X-Men, when Wolverine stabs Mystique with his claws, the marks (which later become scars) are horizontally across her stomach.

Continuity: When Magneto is reversing Cerebro, he is floating and turning clockwise. Just as he passes the door there is a cut and suddenly he is back facing Professor X as he comes back down.

Continuity: When Wolverine can't sleep, he hands Bobby the soda bottle and the contents are almost full, but when Bobby blows on the bottle and hands the chilled bottle back to Wolverine the contents are much lower. Then when Wolverine drinks the Dr Pepper, the bottle is full again.

Other: During a closeup in her fight with Wolverine, Kelly Hu's contact is not on straight, making her pupil not the center of her iris.

Continuity: When Cyclops encounters Lady Deathstrike at Magneto's prison and knocks her down with his optic blast, watch her eyes as she's getting up from the ground. Instead of the greyish white they should be while under the control of the serum, they're a rather nice looking shade of blue. When it shows her standing, they are white/grey again.

Plot hole: When the Drakes (Bobby's family) arrive home they are acting quite naturally, until they find Wolverine there and get a start. Later on we see that they had parked their van in the driveway right behind Cyclops' car, which Logan and company had borrowed and parked there. Wouldn't they, seeing a strange car in their driveway, be suspicious or at least enter their house asking "Bobby, are you home?"

Revealing: In the scene where the cat licks Wolverine's claw, if you look closely you can see a shiny drop of clear liquid at the end of the claw, probably something to make the cat want to taste it.

Revealing: When Storm is admiring Nightcrawler's body art, there's a point at which you can see the color of the actor's skin in the crease of his neck, because he either sweated off his blue makeup in that spot, or the artists didn't apply enough. There's a point toward the end of the movie where you can see Rebecca Stamos' skin in the crease of her neck as well.

Continuity: The mutant assistant that Stryker is controlling has the same healing abilities as Wolverine, but somehow she doesn't heal when the mind control substance is put on her neck. Even if she would still be affected by the mind control stuff, the wound she got from it should have healed.

Continuity: In the scene where the President is about to address the nation, he is handed a glass of water, but in the following shots there is no glass to be seen.

Deliberate "mistake": Where did Storm's accent go? The accent she had in X-Men 1 is completely gone in X-Men 2.

Continuity: When Wolverine locks up Stryker in the chopper, he just wraps the chain around Stryker's chest to start with. But when he completes the link and pats Stryker on the shoulder, Stryker's hands are suddenly behind his back.

Plot hole: Since Logan's highly developed sense of smell detected Mystique as Storm in the original film (right before he impaled her), why wasn't he able to detect that she wasn't Jean Grey in the tent in the second film?

Audio problem: When Bobby's brother dials 911 you hear 3 tones (for the 3 digits he dials). But the 3 tones aren't the right tones you hear when you dial 911 from a touch tone phone. In fact the 2nd and 3rd tones should be the same because it's the same digit but they were different. As if someone just dialed 3 random digits. And there's no doubt he dialed 911 because the operator answers "911".

Revealing: The blue skin coloring is dripping down Nightcrawler's teeth in the scene where he and Storm are talking about his skin scars in the Jet.

Revealing: In the first shot showing the pins in the guards' grenades being manipulated by Magneto, a thin black cord can be seen pulling them upwards.
