How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days (2003) - 55 mistakes

Continuity: In the scene where Andie and Ben are riding the motorcycle and she is wearing a white tank top, you can see the outline of her bra. When they go back to his parents' house and Ben takes off Andie's tank top in the bathroom, she doesn't have a bra on.

Continuity: In the scene where Ben just ran down the fire escape to Andie, she walks away waving. In the shot of her front side she's waving with her right hand, and then in the next shot (a rear shot) she has her left hand up.

Continuity: When the guys are looking at Andie's purse on Ben's desk, the two handles are sticking straight up but the close up shot shows the front handle folded over, and then the next wide shot shows them both up again.

Continuity: When Andie brings the dog into Ben's office, Ben, Thayer and Tony are standing around listening to Ben complain about how Andie is driving him crazy. Tony is holding a white mug with black writing on it, and he hands Ben a plain black mug. Just as Andie walks in, the shot changes to her, then back to Ben and his friends. However, now Ben has a gray colored mug and Tony has a black one.

Continuity: NBA Finals-Game 1. Andie wants Ben to buy her a Coke. During this scene, the camera cuts back and forth between Andie and Ben, and the basketball game. When Ben first looks at the game clock there is a little over a minute left in the game. He rushes to get her soda, and when he gets back, she says she wanted Diet Coke. There is a shot in this sequence where the camera is filming the basketball action, and you can see the game clock with over 7 minutes remaining, even though they are supposed to be nearing the 30 second mark.

Factual error: In the very first scene in the film when the magazine covers are flashing up, the very first one has a headline which says "loose that belly". For a film whose title has the word "lose" in it, you'd think that they could spell this properly.

Continuity: In the scene where Andie is trying to get Ben to look at the photo album and Andie starts to cry, Ben covers his mouth with his fist. In Andie's close up, you can see that Ben has his hand beside his beer bottle. When it shows a close up of Ben again, his fist is still on his mouth.

Visible crew/equipment: In the scene when Ben and Andie are having the couple's counselling session, in the reflection of the consellor's glasses, you can see the filming crew.

Continuity: In the scene where Ben is changing his shirt in his office, and the women outside are watching him, when he puts a new shirt on, the left side of the collar is tucked into the inside of the shirt. The camera cuts to a side angle, and the collar has mysteriously corrected itself.

Continuity: When Ben walks into his office, just before he says, "What's up kitty cat?" in this shot in the background the woman with a black sleeveless top is leaning over a desk speaking with someone. In the next shot as Ben asks, "Where were you man?" that woman is standing by the coffee machine at the wall at the right. Yet, in the next shot, she's back where she was in the first shot.

Plot hole: The scene where Andie comes over for dinner and moves a bunch of frilly stuff into the bathroom, happens at least one day before she comes over with the wedding album she made. In that scene, Ben goes into the bathroom to splash water on his face and discovers the pink hand towel and other stuff - that means he would not have gone into his bathroom for at least a day, or two, since she put the stuff in there, or he would have noticed it sooner.

Continuity: During the Knicks game, there is a shot of the scoreboard with about one minute left. The main score says that the Knicks have 93 points. However, if one adds up the player-point totals on the left (42, 9, 21, 14, 8), the Knicks supposedly have 94 points.

Continuity: In the scene where Ben and Andie are in the bathroom together, after they have been splashed by the truck outside, Ben's shirt is almost dry and only a faint line of wetness is visible. In the next shot of them in the bathroom, his shirt looks as if has been just drenched a few seconds before.

Continuity: Towards the end of the movie when Michelle and Andie are watching the Final Game at Michelle's apartment, the doorbell rings. Michelle assumes it is the Chinese food they have ordered. As she walks to the door she picks up her wallet. When she answers the door and realizes it is not Chinese food but Mike, she slams the door and puts her wallet back down on the table. Before she re-opens the door to talk to Mike she has her wallet back in her hand and puts it back on the table, again.

Continuity: When Andie first goes back to Ben's apartment and they kiss by the mirror, she is suddenly wearing rings on her wedding finger, when previously she only had rings on her right hand middle finger (these are still present as well). These then disappear again when they reach the bed. They then make another appearance in the scene in her friend's flat when she has the cat on her lap.

Continuity: When Ben and Andie are visiting Ben's parents, Ben takes the baby to change his diaper. When he comes back, the baby has a blanket wrapped around him, but when Ben passes the baby to his father, the blanket is not there any more.

Continuity: Ben has to pick a shirt so he says, "Stripes," and in the shot facing Thayer, he throws the stripe shirt with his left hand, yet in the next close-up facing Ben, Thayer is tossing the shirt with his right hand.

Continuity: When Andie walks in and surprises Ben at work, Ben shouts, "Andie!" and he places his light mug down and then it is seen next to the side pocket on the pool table. In the close-up of the dog on the pool table, the light mug is closer to the corner pocket, with the black mug.

Continuity: At his office, when Ben starts removing his tee shirt, three women, holding their coffee mugs, are huddled together glaring at him in two shots. After he flicks the ad with his fingers, two of those women are walking around at the other end of the office, doing their work. Yet when Ben says, "No way!" he turns and sees the three women, still huddled together holding their coffee mugs, glaring at his body.

Continuity: In the scene where Andie is learning how to play Bullshit from Ben's dad, you can see before they start that she has three 7's and two 8's (and many more cards of course). Then when she looks at her cards to see if he really did put down two aces, she does not have any 7's or 8's in her hands.

Continuity: When the truck hits the pot hole and splashes Ben and Andie with water, Ben's shirt changes from being semi wet to almost totally wet when the camera angle changes.

Continuity: Ben stops his motorcycle in the traffic jam waiting for the light to change. The camera angle changes and he's seen taking off but it's not in the same place he stopped to wait for the light.

Continuity: In the scene where Ben is getting his shirt on in his office, in one shot he has one sleeve on. In the next shot, his shirt is totally on and buttoned to the top.

Continuity: When Ben goes to get Andie a diet coke during the Knicks game the amount of soda in the cup keeps changing.

Visible crew/equipment: When Ben and Andie are on Staten Island and pull up in the driveway on the motorcycle, if you look at the black car next to them you will see a cameraman's reflection.

Continuity: During a card game, somebody drinks a beer. The tag changes between shots.

Continuity: In the scene where Andie and Ben are looking at the photo album and Ben's mom calls for Andie, the phone keeps switching hands. First it's in her right hand, then her left, and back to her right by the end of the phone call.

Continuity: In the scene where Ben is on stage and getting the two guys to stop Andie for her to also come sing with him, Ben has the microphone he is using plus another in his hand. The second microphone goes away and comes back several times before he finally picks one up on the piano to give to her.

Other: In the scene where Spears is walking down the street and stops at the magazine stand to buy Composure Magazine, she hands the man a bill. The seller gives Spears her change without even looking at the money he was handed. How does he know what the exact change should be?

Visible crew/equipment: As Ben begins to walk in the house after realizing that his family was helping Andie cheat, you can see the reflection of the yellow camera crew crane that is filming the scene.

Continuity: In the scene where Tony is trying to get Ben to read Andie's article about him in Composure, the title of the article changes from shot to shot. In the first shot, when Tony is reading some quotes to Ben, the title is in blue across the top of an all white page. In the next shot, when Ben is holding the magazine with Andie's article, the title is in red and black with a big pink heart in the background.

Revealing: In the very first scene in the film, the magazine covers are flashing up. There is an article called 'How to get a better bod in 5 days.' If you read the beginning of the article it says 'It Can Done.'

Continuity: When Andie and Ben leave the first game of the NBA finals and Andie is climbing into the cab, she is holding the cup of Diet Coke. In the next shot Ben is holding the cup. Then in the next shot Andie is holding the cup yet again and in the other hand.

Continuity: When Kate Hudson is eating the hamburger, she takes one big bite. And in the few shots after that it can be seen that one perfect bite has been taken out of the burger. In the last shot you see of the burger from behind Kate Hudson nearly 1/4 of the burger has been eaten.

Other: In the movie, the dog that Andie bought for her and Ben had a black face. But in the inside of the dvd case by the chapter selections the dog in that picture is all white.

Continuity: When the ladies exit the meeting and are walking down the stairs after deciding that Andie will be writing the column on how to lose a guy, right before they meet the two executive ladies, Andie is seen starting to open up her bag to put her daytimer in. The camera angle changes to a wide shot and the daytimer is gone and the bag is closed.

Continuity: When Ben is talking to Tony and Thayer about him getting the account, he punches fists with each guy and when the camera angle changes to behind him, you see him punching fists with the second guy again.

Continuity: In the scene where Ben is putting on his shirt, he puts it on without buttoning it. The camera cuts to his friends for 2 seconds, then back to Ben. When the camera cuts back, Ben's shirt is buttoned and perfectly on.

Continuity: When Ben asks, "Where were you, man?" Thayer comes into his office on the right of the screen, as the shot cuts. Yet in the next shot after Tony answers, "Not at an orgy," Thayer just starts to walk in.

Continuity: In the scene where Ben makes the lamb with cherry glaze for Andie, he is about to put carrots on Andie's plate when she says she is a vegetarian; you can see him drop the carrots back on his serving dish. When Andie makes him take the plate away before she gags, there are carrots on her plate.

Continuity: In the scene where Ben is teaching Andie how to ride a motorcycle Andie's clothes change. At the start she is wearing a white top and black trousers which change to a pair of jeans. The jeans then change back to a pair of black trousers again at the end of the scene.

Continuity: At the beginning of the movie when Ben and Andie have met for the first time and they are outside of the restaurant, Ben gives her the 'goofy' helmet he threads the strap through the clip only once, in the next shot it is threaded perfectly in the clip to fasten the helmet.

Continuity: When Michelle puts the wallet down the first time, she puts it on the book. When she puts it down the second time, she puts it directly on the table. In the next shot that shows the wallet it is back on the book.

Factual error: When the 3 guys are trying to think of a slogan for the new diamond gig, Matthew McConaughey (Ben) suggests that they go play a game of 9 Ball to clear their minds. However, he racks up every ball in the triangle, which means they would now be playing 8 Ball.

Continuity: When Ben's mother goes to hug Andie, she puts her right hand on the back on Andie's head and when the camera angle changes to a side view the mother's hand is now on her shoulder.

Continuity: When Andie runs out of the party and Benjamin follows her into the street, in the front shots of her face there is a strand of hair blown across her chin, but in the side shots there is no hair.

Factual error: In the scenes where Andie and Ben are at the NBA Finals games, it always shows a shot of the basketball players. When the clock is winding down, and it is supposedly a very close game, it shows the bench players of the Sacramento Kings on the court. Players such as Lawrence Funderburke, Gerald Wallace, and Scot Pollard only play when there is a huge difference in the scores of the teams, but in the movie, they are supposedly playing a very close ball game. Also, this movie takes place in 2003, which is the year that the Kings got new uniforms, so they wouldn't be playing in the ones that they were wearing. Also, when a team in the NBA enters a finals game, they wear new jerseys that have the NBA Championship Trophy stitched onto them. In the movie, neither team had this on their jerseys.

Continuity: In the opening scene, there is a magazine article which reads, "... finally fall into place, only then will Tajikistan ..." The voice over - of the lady writing the article - says, "And only then will Tajikistan."

Continuity: When Ben goes to get Andie's coke at the Knick game, he grabs the coke from the vendor with his hand on the side of the cup. The next shot shows him grabbing the coke from the top as he turns and runs away.

Continuity: When Andie first meets Ben she has her drink in her right hand but as the camera angle changes to a wider shot the drink is in her left hand so she can shake his hand with her right.

Continuity: On the night Ben and the girl meet they go and eat lobster, first the girl's hair is behind her shoulder then it is in front etc.

Continuity: When Ben asks Andie to go to the party, he tells her that he wants her to go as his girlfriend and she puts her right hand on his shoulder. The camera angle changes to a shot from behind and her hand is now on his chest.

Continuity: When Andie and Michelle are crashing at Michelle's place near the end of the movie, the cat on Andie's lap faces left, toward her head. When Michelle jumps up to answer the door in the very next shot, the cat is facing right before he jumps down.

Factual error: In the scene where Ben is bringing Andie back to his apartment after meeting her for the first time, you see the two helmets on tables in the living room, when obviously they just wore them on the motorcycle ride to the apartment.

Continuity: In the scene where Andie is sitting next to the married guy at the bar, when his wife comes along, the shot changes to Andie's friends laughing. It then very quickly changes back to Andie and you see she is now standing up, and the guy's wife is sitting down. There would not have been enough time for the two women to swap places.
