Terminator 3: Rise of the Machines (2003) - 87 mistakes
Directed by Jonathan Mostow, starring Arnold Schwarzenegger, Claire Danes, Kristanna Loken, Nick Stahl, Earl Boen (add more)
Other: When the Terminator scans the doorman at the bar, a display comes up categorizing each piece of the doorman's clothing. The word "briefs" is misspelled "breifs".
Continuity: In the opening narration, John Connor says that he was attacked by the T-1000 when he was 13 years old. This is wrong. In Terminator 2, we see that John Connor is only 10 years old, as shown on the police computer when the T-1000 accesses it.
Continuity: When T101 walks around at the gas station, shopping, he fills up the shopping basket, and one of the bags of chips can't fit in the basket. However in the next clip, the basket is half empty and there is plenty of room for the two boxes of candy he grabs at the counter.
Continuity: JC's leg was crushed by the T-X. After emerging from the elevator, he limps on the wrong leg.
Continuity: In the cemetery scene when the Terminator uses a bazooka to fire a missile at the TX, the shot that shows the TX being launched up in the air and hitting a gravestone should have shown the car used by the TX and the road where the car was parked. In the next shot, when the TX gets up and starts to run after the hearse, the road reappears but not the parked car.
Continuity: When Kate gets the phone call in the middle of the night to goto the pet clinic, her phone is a white+blue Nokia 8310. Later on when she is calling from the back of the pet truck and it loses reception and the camera goes onto the phones, its now an all blue Nokia 51xx (I think) series phone.
Continuity: In the scene just after Kate Brewster's dad has been shot he says to go to his office. On the way there you can see his jacket is undone and you can see his shirt and tie. Yet when they enter the office it shows him sitting down with his jacket neatly buttoned up. For a guy who just got shot and is running from machines, I doubt he would worry about buttoning up his jacket.
Audio problem: When Arnold is done shooting at the cops in the graveyard scene, there are birds singing in the background. No way that any birds would be left in that area (not to mention singing) after at least 15 machine guns have been firing for more than 2 consecutive minutes, not to mention the cop car exploding.
Continuity: As the hearse comes out from under the truck while they are trying to get rid of the Terminatrix, you can see that the windscreen is intact. But as they drive down the hill it's missing.
Revealing: When they are driving the tundra after the big champion crane crashes, the Terminator gets in the truck. If you look closely, the truck's shifter is all the way in park.
Revealing: After the Female Cyborg kill's the two agents in the car, there is a crane shot of her car turning around in the middle of the road where you can see see the mark in the middle of the road showing the driver where exactly to turn.
Continuity: After the first two fireman jump out of the fire truck, Arnold climbs in and says "Get out" to the other fire fighters. When the next two fireman jump out, the first two are not seen on the road behind them. Also, when Arnold changes gears on the fire truck none of the four fire fighters are seen on the road.
Continuity: When smashing the truck in the hangar, the T850 hits it an it falls down so that the bumper is on the floor. When it shows the T850 from John's POV, the truck is back up on its wheels, although the wheels are still damaged.
Continuity: During the scene with the hearse the front right hub cap comes off twice.
Continuity: When the Terminator and John are talking while driving the pet truck through the desert with Kate in the back, keep watching out the Terminator's side. In the distance, you can see about three huge cone-shaped trees and every time the Terminator talks, they're always in the shot. In one shot, there's about five, then it's always three again.
Audio problem: While the T-101 takes off the crowbar at the gas station it makes a clanging sound before it even leaves his hands.
Visible crew/equipment: Right after the ambulance runs over Arnold's motorcycle a shot of him hanging on the crane hook is shown. You can see the safety cable attached to the left of his belt.
Continuity: When John and Kate are in the bunker and they are talking about why they are there, we see John look down at the timer. It reads one minute 16 seconds. When Montana Civil Defense is talking over the radio, he deactivates it at 7 seconds. It should have read 27 seconds; there had been no breaks in the scene.
Continuity: When John is threatening to kill himself, his finger alternates from being on the trigger of the handgun to being on the trigger guard from shot to shot.
Audio problem: When the female TX is stopped by police during the intro credits, before the officer speaks you can see the TX's lips moving saying "Is there a problem officer" but her audio is muted.
Continuity: During the scene when Arnold carries the casket, a shot shows many bullet holes on its front side. Two shots later, these holes have disappeared.
Continuity: In the scene at the gas station, Arnie removes the iron bar from the truck's doors and discards it. The truck drives off and is seen to have no bar holding the doors closed. There then follows a lengthy conversation between John and Kate. At the end of this conversation the truck is seen driving down a slight hill just before the scene changes to Scott's apartment- look closely and you'll see the iron bar on the doors, despite Arnie having removed it.
Continuity: When John crashes the Toyota truck into the rear of the silver Taurus, the car's bumper cover lands on the ground to the right of the car, between it and a parked car. When John drives away from the accident, he drives between the Taurus and the parked car, but the cover isn't there to be run over- it's now tucked under the Taurus at the right/rear corner. Then, as the crane smashes the Taurus, the cover is now well to the car's left, in the lane of opposing traffic.
Continuity: When John and the vet arrive at the mountain in their Cessna, the sun casts a shadow straight under the plane. The very moment they walk through the door into the hangar integrated in this mountain (which in the film is immediately after they landed), their shadows are in front of them indicating a low sun.
Factual error: All over the particle accelerator you can read about the dangerous magnetic fields that are caused by it. the radiation that is created by the accelerated particles is mentioned nowhere although there is no possibility to find a wall without radiation warnings in a science lab with a real accelerator.
Continuity: When the Terminator is hitting the T-X with the fire extinguisher, she puts her fist up and punctures it so the Terminator chucks it down on the floor. We see it on the floor again, but when the Terminator is running towards the T-X you see where the extinguisher was but now it has vanished.
Continuity: When the remote cars are crashing into John Connor's truck the up close camera angles do not show the same damage on the front and sides of the police cars as the far away angles do.
Revealing: When the hearse has no roof it is obvious at one stage that it is not Arnold sitting behind the steering wheel.
Continuity: In the crane chase scene there is a point where the last remaining ambulance collides with the back of the Toyota. You see the ambulance back off and the right headlight is smashed and the housing is dangling. The headlights are also off. The scene cuts to the rear-view mirror of the Toyota. You briefly see the same ambulance with its lights on and both headlights are intact. Shortly thereafter they cut to a behind-the-back shot of Arnold as the same ambulance starts to flip. The tail lights are on. It wouldn't be brake lights since there is no driver and the termnatrix certainly wouldn't remotely apply the brakes.
Continuity: When Arnold shoots the crane tires, the motorbike is shown to have a windshield. Right after when the T-X knocks him off the bike the windshield is missing. The next shot is the ambulance hitting the bike and the windshield is back.
Visible crew/equipment: During the "target acquired" chase scene when the red pickup truck flips over after going through the split semi-trailer there is an overhead shot shown of the action. The next shot when the T-X looks in her rear view mirror at the action, the camera crane that filmed the previous overhead shot is visible in the background.
Continuity: The driver side rear view mirror is broken on the police car as it chases the tundra truck onto a front yard, but after leaving the yard the mirror is back intact.
Continuity: In the scene when the TX, disguised as Kate's fiance, is in a car with the two policemen on their way to find Kate, the TX kills the police officer who is driving by sticking its hand through his chest. His partner sitting in the passenger seat immediately reaches for his gun, causing his seatbelt to slide off his right shoulder. Cut to a shot from behind him and the seatbelt is back on the same shoulder.
Continuity: When John, Kate and Arnie are at the cemetery getting the weapons from Sarah's casket, Kate pulls a handgun on Arnie. He looks up and is facing his right with his legs turned in that direction. They go back to Kate and then back to Arnie. Now he is turned to the left.
Continuity: During the crane chase scene, the T-X is shown changing gear twice. Both times, the arm is definitely not Kristanna Loken's. It is much thicker and has lots of hair. In another shot, during this chase her arm is shown and it is different.
Revealing: When the animal rescue truck crashes through the seminary gate, the sparks that fly come well after the truck hits.
Continuity: When Katherine Brewster is initially saved by the Terminator from the TX and thrown in the back of the truck, her knees are wet, then drier and drier but then wet again showing the sequence we see was shot at different times.
Revealing: Look carefully at the metal bar with which Arnold secures the doors of the van with the Vet inside. As he bends the bar straight so he can open the doors, it vibrates a little indicating it is a rubber fake.
Continuity: The amber parking light lenses on the hearse are mismatched and change several times thoughout the hearse scenes (note the Cadillac crest on the left side lens).
Continuity: When the Terminator gets in the Toyota Tundra with John (after destroying the crane that the T-X was in), you can see that there is no seat belt in the seat belt holder. But when the Terminator is examining John for "brain trauma", there is now a seat belt in the seat belt holder.
Continuity: During the big chase scene (a little after the Terminator collided with the fire truck), the crane crashes through another glass store front. When it emerges and turns, the hook is tied to the front of the crane, just as it was when the T-X first got it.
Visible crew/equipment: In the scene where John, Catherine and the Terminator are in the mausoleum getting the guns out of the casket, you can see two "marks" taped on the floor in front of John and Catherine. (I think they were red and green.)
Revealing: When Arnie body slams the TX into the toilet, the fact that it's a dummy is blatantly obvious, even at full speed.
Continuity: During the crane chase scene the last remaining ambulance collides with the back of the Toyota. The right front headlight is smashed and the housing is dangling. The scene cuts to the rear-view mirror of the Toyota, in which you can see the ambulance, which has both headlights intact.
Continuity: During the shooting scene at the cemetery, note one of the stones (rectangular from the left) behind T-101 when he comes out carrying a coffin. You can see it has 5 holes - 3 left, 2 upper right side. However, a few seconds later, it has 6 holes, but their position has completely changed, 3 upper side, 3 right side.
Continuity: When the TX's crane is pulling away after destroying the building facade, it is seen from the high angle that the top of the cab is clean. When the crane is shown again the cab roof is covered in cables and other debris. Also note it remains this way until catching up with Connor in the Tundra truck and then the crane is clean like it was run through a car wash.
Continuity: When the crane flips over the arm is missing when it is seen sliding across the road.
Revealing: When the T-800 drives the truck into the building, from the side view you can see that the truck misses the silver car completely. Yet in the next shot it appears to hit it, and the car lurches (somewhat unrealistically as if pulled by a cable) to the left and explodes.
Continuity: After Arnold has taken the fire truck, John is chased by a single police car. The overhead shot pans left to show the crane approaching from John's right. This shot shows the crane arm is pointing rearward. But when the crane bursts through the wall a split-second later, the arm points forward.
Continuity: After John crashes the truck into the silver car, the empty emergency vehicles approach from behind. At the right, a red sedan is shown from the rear with a broken tail light and mangled bumper. A few shots later, the crane comes around a corner and hits this red car, but before the actual collision, the tail light and bumper of the car are fine.
Revealing: When the T-X is trying to get Kate out of the car, she rips the door off the truck and pulls Kate out. Kate goes flying through the air and lands on the tarmac. However, if you watch the floor closely just as she lands, you can see that the floor actually wobbles and shakes. It is obviously not real.
Continuity: When the TX runs a red light in the stolen Lexus, a cop stopped at the red light does a one-eighty to begin pursuit. When the TX pulls over, the license plate on the cop's squad car is not the same as when it was stopped at the red light.
Continuity: When the three leads leave the rest area in the mobile home to go find Cate's father, it's about 3.30pm (we hear reference to 6.18 pm and it's in 2 hours 53 minutes). After the conversation where T101 tells that he killed John, you see the car from the outside. You can see on the shadows that the sun is so low, it must be very close to sunset. Shortly afterwards, during the next conversation, it is bright daylight again and it stays so during the rest of the outdoors scenes.
Revealing: When the Terminator uses the the G-36 assault rifle, the muzzle of the rifle is fitted with a maneuver ammunition device which shows that he uses no real ammunition, but a variety that just makes "bang" sounds without a bullet.
Continuity: When the Terminator jumps onto the roof of the truck that John is driving, the damage he causes changes when we see the truck driving off into the distance.
Continuity: When Kate is viewing the T-X on the security cameras, the two views of the corridor do not match each other. For example, the first camera shows glass walls, whereas the second shows wall panels.
Continuity: When the Terminator is at the AM/PM, he is filling a small basket with various food items. One item in particular was a large bag of chips. The contents in the basket change from shot to shot, most noticeably the chips disappear completely.
Plot hole: The T-X did not hear Catherine in the Animal Hospital when she was only a few feet away and breathing loudly. Considering the scope of some of her technology, one would assume she would easily find her.
Continuity: When the Terminator puts the tyre wrench in the doors of the van he bends the wrench. But later in the desert it's bent differently.
Continuity: When the TX runs the crane through the glass corner of a small building while chasing the tundra truck, the flashing orange lights on the top of the cab are missing. These lights return on the next shot.
Factual error: When the T-X is driving the crane and swinging the Terminator around, that is mechanically impossible. All mobile cranes are designed to run only when they are in neutral. The T-X would have burned out the hydraulic pump within seconds.
Continuity: When the T-X steals the car in the beginning, she's weaving in and out of traffic and from her view we see that she is coming up to a truck in the right lane. The view changes to view from outside the car and she's turning into the right lane and driving straight ahead. The truck is gone.
Continuity: During the crane chase the amount of damage to the van changes drastically throughout the chase.
Continuity: A headlight breaks loose on the ambulance after hitting Arnold's motorcycle. The next shot when the TX is looking in her rear view mirror, the ambulance has two flawless headlights.
Continuity: The crane's arm is draped in cables, wires, and even a partial telephone pole right before Arnold is dragged through the buildings glass facade. The next shot before impact the crane's arm is clean.
Deliberate "mistake": When the T-X is driving the crane during the 'target acquired' shot, the view from her display shows her much higher above the ground than she should be.
Continuity: At first, the color of the steering wheel of the police car (the one taking the TX disguised as Kate's fiance) is grey. In a close-up shot of the police officer looking at the TX's arm sticking through his chest, the wheel is now light brown.
Visible crew/equipment: When the TX's crane drags the terminator through the building's glass facade you can see the camera mounted in a cage on the back of the crane when the viewpoint changes to the inside of the building.
Continuity: When the TX pulls up to Jim's Burgers, notice the umbrellas in front of the store and the "in-out" arrows on the road. Asking for Jose Barrera at the drive-thru speaker, she drives in and shoots him from the passenger side of the car and exits on the same side of the building she came in. You can see the front of the store with umbrellas upon entry and exit, yet the drive thru speaker has disappeared.
Revealing: At the end of the chase, you see that the crane truck flips and one of the wheels falls off. If it was that loose, it should have come off when the T-X did a right turn.
Continuity: In the scene where the Terminator is carrying the casket out of the mausoleum, the police open fire from his left side. Close-ups show bullet holes on the front and top of the casket even before he turns to return fire.
Continuity: The Terminator is following the crane at the rear corner when the TX moves the arm out allowing the hook to hit parked cars and telephone poles. During the overhead shot there is no Terminator behind the crane.
Continuity: When the Terminator is slamming his fists again the truck trying to fight his new programming, the damage to the truck changes between each camera angle. Watch the passenger front tire collapse under the truck in one scene and then it's just at an angle on the next.
Factual error: When John breaks into the animal clinic, he gets shot with his own "paintball gun". A real paintball gun is easily 4 or 5 times the size of a real handgun, and could never be disguised as the 9mm model shown. A real paintball gun requires a large co2 cartridge, and the paintballs fired are around the size of a quarter, much larger than 9mm. Even though some paintball cartridges are made that can be fired from conventional firearms for training purposes, the guns still need extensive and noticeable modifications, which his gun doesn't have.
Revealing: During the entire hearse chase scene, the transmission shift lever is in park.
Continuity: During the chase scene with the veterinary truck and the terminatrix, the damage to the truck is constantly changing. In one shot the hood of the truck is bent upward, in the next shot it is straight and undamaged.
Continuity: When the T-800 first drives the truck into the Vet clinic, the truck has crashed into the building, so that the doors are inside the clinic. Yet in the very next shot when he gets out, the truck has moved back so that the doors can open cleanly, without the T-800 backing the truck up. Then when John escapes the cage and he runs into the T-800, you can see the truck inside the clinic. It is now more than halfway inside the building.
Visible crew/equipment: Just before John Connor crashes into the car in front with the Tundra, there are a couple of shots shown from inside. During these shots, there is a cameraman visible on the extreme left hand side of the frame, hiding behind a black jaguar.
Continuity: The hubcaps on the hearse come off but are back on in later scenes.
Revealing: During the opening credits, the Terminatrix steals a woman's car. She uses her mobile phone to dial a number and successfully connect to a computer. However, you can see that the phone has no reception, making a phone call impossible. Battery life is the right hand gauge, and signal strength is the left hand one, with no bars.
Continuity: During the chase scene with Kate's truck and the T-X in the crane, the driver's door disappears and reappears several times.
Revealing: At the end of the movie when the missile hits and explodes on the city in the backround we see the buildings closer to the screen (the barn and the small office building) get domolished by the shockwave, but all the trees surrounding these buildings don't even move.
Continuity: During the chase scene when the T-X is driving the crane, the legs of the crane are out in some shots and retracted in other shots.
Factual error: During the scene where the Terminatrix remotely controls the police and rescue vehicles, we see the police car's shifter drop one notch (from park to reverse) but the car takes off going forward, throwing a cop out.
Continuity: When the Terminator breaks into the van the broken glass changes from smashing it to getting in.
Continuity: When John talks to Catherine while sitting at the table in a moving RV, watch the explosives he is working on. Position of the charges changes with every shot facing Catherine. At one point they completely disappear from the table leaving only the Glock 18 handgun, and just a second later the table shown full of explosives again.
