Clueless (1995) - 37 mistakes

Visible crew/equipment: In the first close-up of Cher during the driver's test, as she says, "I have an overwhelming sense of..." the top of a crewmember's head, with his short wavy hair blowing in the wind, is reflected at the bottom of the Jeep's windshield.

Visible crew/equipment: Near the start, when Cher picks up Dionne in her Jeep, in Dionne's two closeups when she shows off her hat and when she says, "Well at least I wouldn't skin a Collie to make my backpack," the shadows of film equipment, crane and rigging are visible on the lawn as it moves along with the girls.

Continuity: When Cher is taking the driver's test, she bangs the mirror. But then, when she turns the corner, the mirror is whole again.

Continuity: When Cher is held up by the guy with the gun after the Valley party, he tells her to get down on the ground. Take a look at her necklace - it's a small silver heart on a silver chain. She gets down on the ground, counts to 100 and gets up again. Check out the necklace now - it's still the silver chain, but the pendant on it is one of those nameplates that says 'Cher'.

Other: When Josh and Cher are driving home from a party, they show a shot of the car. It's a blue sports car that passes a Hertz car rental sign. When Elton is driving Cher home from the party in the Valley, they show the exact same shot of the blue sports car passing the Hertz car rental sign.

Continuity: Tai and Cher are hugging when they are watching Travis' Skateboarding competition. Cher starts out on the left and Tai on the right. They hug in that position and then mysteriously end their hug on opposite sides.

Continuity: When Dionne is driving Cher and Murray in his BMW on the highway and the tractor trailer comes up behind them, it appears to change lanes to pass them 3 times. However when the camera angle changes the truck is lined up right behind them again.

Continuity: During the part when Cher and Tie are at the party and Travis comes up to them he has 2 cups of some kind of drink and all of a sudden you hear a sound that is supposed to be something spilling. I guess they assumed that it was supposed to be the beer spilling on Cher's shoes. Well as you can see nothing falls/spills from the cup, it is just sound effects.

Continuity: In the scene where Cher picks up Dion and they drive to school, Dion's nose ring appears and disappears with each shot. Same case for other scenes/shots throughout the film.

Continuity: On the part where Ty and Cher are at Travis' competition, after they "make up" they sit down beside each other and they are toward the back with no people around them, yet on the next shot, they are toward the front and there's a bunch of people behind them.

Other: When the group arrive at the Valley party you can see that the house is a single story, but later when Cher goes out to the pool the house is now a two story.

Continuity: When Josh picks up Cher after she is mugged, the rearview mirror on Josh's car disappears when he pulls over to the curb.

Continuity: During the collection for the disaster relief, when Travis places the box down on the counter all the jars fall over, but next shot they're upright again.

Continuity: The rearview mirror on Cher's Jeep keeps disappearing and reappearing, between close-ups and wideshots, throughout the film.

Continuity: When Tai is being held over the railing at the mall by the guys from Foot Locker, Christian begins to run towards her as soon as she screams. There is a shot of Tai, and then back to Cher and Christian. But Christian's motion resumes from exactly where he had been in the last shot of him, despite almost two elapsed seconds.

Continuity: When Cher is helping Josh and the other lawyer go through depositions, and screws up, the other lawyer yells at her and she runs up the stairs crying. However the view switches to Josh with the staircase behind him when she should still be in view on the staircase and she's not there.

Continuity: When Murray parks the car in front of the Valley party house, the car blocks the stairs, but next shot when they get out of the car it's much farther up.

Continuity: While Tai is in the livingroom, Cher and Josh are in the kitchen as Josh fixes himself a turkey sandwich. When they reach the livingroom doorway he's taking a bite out of it as he holds the sandwich is in his left hand, but next shot it's in his right as he continues taking a bite.

Continuity: When Travis gives Tai the invitation to the Valley party when she, Cher and Dionne are walking, the notebook flips over in Tai's hand between the wideshot and last close-up - note its flap.

Revealing: When Cher is robbed and she calls her brother on a payphone, she doesn't put any money in and she doesn't press enough buttons to be using a calling card.

Plot hole: After Cher is robbed, and calls Josh to get a ride home, she does not tell him where to pick her up. She just says she's in Sun Valley.

Continuity: When Cher is taking her driving test and is supposed to be changing lanes, she almost hits a biker. But if you look closely when she is actually just hitting the biker you can see that it is not her, but a professional driver. The next shot then goes back to being the real Cher.

Other: On the back of the Clueless movie box, it says that it is "not easy being the most popular girl at Beverly Hills High..." but Cher goes to Bronson Alcott High School in the movie. The name is said and there are also a couple of scenes where you can see the initials BAH - most noticeably on the sweater of the gym teacher when Cher is trying to get her grade changed.

Factual error: This happens during almost all car scenes in the movie: in close-ups of Cher - or anyone else - when driving in a roofless car (like the Jeep), their hair doesn't blow back with the wind.

Audio problem: (This is extremely difficult to see and you have to concentrate to notice it). When Cher and Ty are talking in Cher's lounge room after the workout, Cher says "something good for mankind or the planet for a couple of hours", but her words don't match her mouth moving for 'hours'.

Continuity: When Cher is sitting on the couch with Josh doing her hair, one shot of her from the back show all her hair in the clip, but in another shot of her from the back, only some parts of her hair are in the clip, in half up-half down style.

Continuity: Near the end of the movie, when Josh and Cher talk on the stairs, the shot changes to a close-up and they have moved from their previous positions. They are slightly closer together, and their legs are positioned differently.

Continuity: When Dan Hedeya is sorting the mail, there is a close up of two peices of mail. The first is a letter addressed to Melvin Hamilton with 90210 zip code. The second piece, Cher's report card, is addressed as Cher Hamilton with the zip code of 90212. Cher's last name is Horowitz, as established earlier in the film.

Continuity: At the valley party, after Travis tries to see how Tai is while she's laid out on the counter, Cher pushes him all the way out of the kitchen so that his entire body is in the doorframe. In the next shot, he is several steps back into the kitchen as he turns to go back into the other room.

Continuity: When Cher and Josh are sitting on the stairs near the end, Cher's hair is either behind her ear or loose (I can't remember which). When they next show her it is the opposite.

Continuity: When Josh is taking Cher driving for the first time and Josh says "This is America we drive on the right side of the road." You see him saying that and then there is a cut of Cher and you see the curb like it's right next to her but you also see the curb right next to Josh - could be a one lane street but when they show you the car it is a 2 lane street.

Continuity: When Cher and Josh are sitting on the couch talking, she puts several clips in her hair. When shown from the front, they are in one position, and when shown from the side, they're in another.

Continuity: After coming home from the party, Josh and Cher are talking while watching Ren and Stimpy. Cher's combing her hair and picks up a clip beside her, to her left. Before she has a chance to put that clip in her hair, when she picks up the phone that clip is already in her hair.

Continuity: When Cher is laying on the bed watching a movie with Christian, he gets up. He is lying with his face down, but in the next shot he's lying on his back right before getting up and walking towards the door.

Continuity: When Cher invites Christian over, she's wearing a lot of eyeshadow. Lots of pink and lots of colour. It's even clear after she falls off the bed. But when she shows him to the door, which is right after her falling off, her makeup is different.

Visible crew/equipment: In the scene where Cher is waiting for Christian to call and packing her dad's suitcase up, you can see the shadow of the camera equipment moving up on the wall.

Other: Near the start when Cher askes Tai how old she is, Tai says, 'I'll be 16 in May.' Then Cher says, 'Well, my birthday is in April, so as someone older than you...' But throughout the movie it is said that Cher is already 16. No birthdays are shown. You'd think that a rich girl in Beverly Hill would celebrate her birthday.
