Continuity: During Frodo and Sam's final scene in Osgiliath, you can clearly see that the chain Frodo is wearing has gotten much longer. In several shots while Frodo is on the ground, the chain hangs down below the shot, so you cannot see the Ring.

Audio problem: When Sam, Frodo, and Gollum are in the forest of Ithilien, when Sam says "Can't you hear yourself, don't you know who you sound like?" the shots change and you can see Sam mouthing the words again.

Revealing: Frodo, Sam, Faramir and Gollum are at the sewer in Osgiliath. when Faramir asks, "Cirith Ungol?" and then grabs Gollum's neck. Frodo and Sam watch as Gollum is grabbed, but their eyes do not follow Gollum as Faramir grabs him, their eyes remain focused on the ground to their left. The shot of Faramir and the shot of Frodo and Sam were edited together, with Gollum added later.

Continuity: When Saruman and Wormtongue look down from Orthanc at the Uruk-hai army, it is spread out across the plain in front of the tower. What happened to the vast caverns which had been dug into the ground? Some are shown off to the left of shot, but the landscape had earlier been shown as much more pitted in other scenes.

Revealing: At the Battle of Helm's Deep, just after Aragorn slices the leg off the Uruk and just before Gimli slides down between the legs of another Uruk and smashes his axe into his chest, look carefully at the Elf on the left side of the screen. He arches his bow and fires, followed by a specific shooting bow sound effect, but there is no arrow.

Revealing: At the battle of Helm's Deep, Theoden, Aragorn, Legolas and the rest ride out of the Keep to meet the enemy, watch as the first men out of the gate kill all the Uruks on the bridge, yet the men riding behind them continue to hack and slash away at thin air.

Continuity: As Theoden draws his sword before the cavalry charge from the hall, there is a rider to the right of Legolas at the edge of the screen. When it changes to a wider shot, the horse and rider are no longer there, and there is a clear space where they were standing.

Continuity: During the Warg battle, just after Gimli falls off Arod, the Warg across the field lifts his face and spots Gimli. In the two close-up shots, directly behind the Warg, on his right, there are two arrows sticking up out of a dead body. However, in the wide shot that follows, there is no body with two arrows protruding, anywhere behind him. It is not the bodies to his side.

Revealing: Gimli is lying with his face under the water, after jumping off the Deeping Wall and landing on the Uruk-hai. In the close-up, the right arm that grabs Gimli's shoulder to help him out of the water is Legolas' right arm. Yet, in the wide shot, suddenly it is Aragorn helping Gimli to his feet, not Legolas!

Revealing: In Osgiliath, when Sam and Frodo are falling down the stone steps, both of their knee pads are revealed because their knickers ride up at the knees during their fall.
