Center Stage

Continuity mistake: In one scene when Cooper is choreographing the dance, his shirt is sweat-free. The next time you see him there's a big sweat stain on his shirt. (01:05:10)

Continuity mistake: When Charlie, Jody, and Cooper are all practising the Pas De Trois, one shot shows Charlie with a sweaty T-shirt. In the next shot of him his shirt is all nice and clean and so on. (01:04:35)

Continuity mistake: When Maureen is with her new boyfriend and is about to go up to her dorm, they are both eating ice-creams. The camera shot is seeing them face on and her ice cream has hardly been eaten at all, then they kiss and you see the side view of them and suddenly her ice cream is almost all gone. (00:38:05)

Continuity mistake: When the girls are sitting on Jodie's bed in their dorm room (happens at least twice in the movie) there are three framed picture collages on the wall next to the bed. If you look closely, you'll see the same pictures appear in each picture frame. (01:31:50)

Audio problem: When Jodie goes to the inner city dance class, the teacher says, 'Get ready to get down and contract' but when she says, 'and contract' the words do not match her mouth movements.

Continuity mistake: When Jody takes the class at the Broadway Dance Studio and they are on the ground doing leg raises, you see bags along the back of the room near the window. Just after the leg raises, they start to bounce, and the bags are gone. (00:46:00)

Continuity mistake: The scene where Jodie goes to the alternate jazz dance class, they are finishing the warm-up and the camera cuts to a wide shot outside the studio. On the right-hand side, behind the word 'studio' a lady in a blue top stands up too quickly and realises, she then bends down again, but by then it's too obvious. (00:46:25)

Plot hole: In Jonathan's ballet at the workshop, Sergei proceeds very slowly through an array of twenty dancers before reaching the leading lady, whom he expects to be Maureen. But instead it is Eva, whom Maureen has asked to take her place. When Sergei sees Eva, he is extremely surprised. I guess that could make sense, if he's been focused on his own dancing. But the stage crew and several dancers in the wings start chattering confusedly, as if they've also just seen Eva for the first time in that same moment. However, Eva must have been standing there for several minutes, or at the very least had just walked through the crowd of surprised people, and Maureen must have been missing from her spot this whole time, so these people should be in mid-reaction. Continuity mistake: In Cooper's ballet, after Jody's pas de trois with Cooper and Charlie, where she is wearing a blue dress and blue or silver shoes, the shot focuses in on her feet, wearing the silver shoes. Then it pans up to her body, and she is suddenly wearing a red outfit. Then, the shot widens, and her shoes are also red. The costume change is not possible as shown; it would require an intermission or other break during which Jody is not on stage, but the movie depicts her continuous presence on stage with shots panning across her body. (01:40:35)

Continuity mistake: At the beginning of the final dance scene during the Swan Lake rehearsal, Jodi is dressed exactly like the other dancers in all white. Right before Cooper pulls her tutu to reveal a dark red leotard beneath it you can see the straps from the 2nd outfit, but not before.

Other mistake: After Jody, Charlie, and Cooper take their last curtain call, the shot goes backstage. Sergei yells at Eva, "You! I'm gonna kill you!" presumably because she surprised him by taking Maureen's place. Eva responds, "I'm so sorry. I wanted to tell you." And they argue playfully and then hug. But it's been a long time [the entire length of Cooper's ballet] since their ballet finished. And we saw the backstage scenes immediately after Cooper's ballet and after the Italian Symphony ballet, and everyone had a chance to talk right then. And Eva and Sergei finished their ballet in each other's arms. So they should have had that whole conversation a long time earlier. Even if real ballet dancers wouldn't be permitted to talk after a performance, the dancers in this movie are shown speaking freely to one another backstage as soon as the curtain falls. (01:44:05)

Continuity mistake: When the group in the Broadway Dance Studio are doing the big last dance, you can see a black bag against the wall near the window. Sometimes, it looks like there is a red sweater on the bag, and then it disappears. Easiest place to spot this is when they do their jumps. When all the men go, the sweater isn't there. After Cooper, a lady in a green shirt does her kick and the sweater is draped over again. (00:48:45)

Continuity mistake: When Jody goes to see Cooper in Stars and Stripes you get a shot of the audience. It is the same audience that is used at the end of the moving during the Student Workshop. (01:08:25 - 01:32:30)

Continuity mistake: In the scene where the students are practising their ballets on the stage, Jodie and Charlie are sitting next to each other looking at a newspaper. Charlie puts his arm on the armrest when they are showing them from the back, right before Cooper shows up. A second later when the camera is showing the two of them from the front Charlie's arm is around Jody. (01:19:15)

Continuity mistake: In the scene where Jody is crying about Cooper being so rude and Charlie is talking to her, she complains about looking splochy, which she does (mascara dripping, eye liner smeared, etc.). In the next shot, when she enters the studio again, her make-up is perfect. Quick fix, huh? (01:12:00)

Suggested correction: She complains that she's splotchy, but she isn't. There isn't any eye makeup running down her face. She's just red. It's assumed that she and Charlie stayed out there for a moment so that she wouldn't be all red and went back inside the studio.

Continuity mistake: At the students' rehearsal on the stage, Jody and Charlie are looking at a newspaper. The front says Culture Section. When the camera angle switches to show them from the back, they are in the middle of that newspaper section looking at another page that says Culture Section. The same page was used twice in the section. (01:18:45)

Character mistake: Juliette Simone praises Eva in an across-the-room exercise but calls her "Aiesha." That is the name of Zoe Saldana's dance double.

Erik Jones: That's Sergei, that's Jody, that's Eva, I'm Erik, and you're cute.

Trivia: Maureen is said in the movie to be the best dancer at the school. However, you never really see her do anything spectacular. That is because Susan May Pratt is the only non-trained dancer in the movie.
