Continuity: After speaking to Lauren Bacall on a restaurant pay phone, two thugs jump Marlowe in a dark alley and the thug on the left throes a punch at him. The punch is at his face but in the next shot Marlowe's handkerchief gets knocked out of his pocket.

Continuity: Marlowe stands next to Bernie Ohls' desk as the inspector asks him to layoff the Sternwood case. The lamp on Bernie's' desk is tilted at a 45 degree angle. No one goes near it, but as Marlowe leaves the lamp is facing down towards the desk.

Continuity: Marlowe drives Lauren Bacall home from Eddie Mars place and after he kisses her she wraps the strap of her pocketbook around the index finger of her left hand. In the next shot it's wrapped around the thumb of her left hand.

Audio problem: In the bar Marlowe says to Mars' thugs, "Yeah, Mrs. Rutledge wants to see me". But his lips doesn't match what he's saying.

Continuity: Lauren Bacall says to Marlowe, "Could that be stretched to include me?" as they sit drinking at the table in the restaurant. If you look closely the amount of ice in her drink changes between shots.

Continuity: The woman and the gentleman in the tux sitting next to Lauren Bacall are facing forward when we first see them as Lauren sings "Tears Flowed Like Wine". In the next shot the camera angle changes and they have moved ninety degrees and are now facing her.

Continuity: When Eddie Mars' pours Marlowe a drink there's a lamp shining on the left of the liquor cabinet. The next time we see this spot the lamp has been moved as the shadows on the liquor cabinet are falling in the opposite direction.

Continuity: Lauren Bacall walks into a restaurant, and sees Marlowe at the bar with his head tilted back as he finishes his drink, and says, "Hello". The guy to the right of Marlowe is looking at the bartender but in the next shot his head has turned ninety degrees as he's now talking to his friend.

Continuity: Before Marlowe sits down Dist. Atty. White has a statue on his desk between Marlowe and himself. In the next shot after Marlowe sits down the statute disappears then reappears again in the shot after that (1945 Version on DVD).

Continuity: As Lauren Bacall walks out of Marlowe's office the sunlight in the waiting room is shining against the right wall. When she was sitting in the waiting room as Marlowe walked in a few moments ago, the sun was shining against the left wall.

Continuity: As Marlowe walks back into Geiger's store the second time the secretary opens up a book with her left hand and proceeds to insert a piece of paper into it with her right. In the next shot the book is closed.

Continuity: After Marlowe plops Carmen Sternwood onto her bed the lamp (on the left) moves over about two feet to the left in the next shot.
