Superman III

Stupidity: When Clark is fighting Evil Superman in the junkyard, Evil Superman looks up and sees a huge magnet directly over Clark and Clark notices it too. Evil Superman uses his heat vision on the chain causing it to heat up then break dropping the magnet on Clark. Clark had plenty of time to get out of the way before the chain snapped but he just stands there when it finally falls on him.

Stupidity: When Superman gets to the bridge after the truck falls off, he asks the firemen if there's anything he can do. They responds that there's really nothing as he got there too late. How about asking him if he could get the truck out of the water. That would have been a help.

Question: Why was Lex Luthor absent in this movie? Not only he didn't appear but wasn't even mentioned. Did Gene Hackman refuse to reprise the role in this movie?

Answer: There were rumors that Hackman was angry with the Salkind Brothers (the producers) for firing director Richard Donner, though Hackman later disputed saying that. His explanation, though he may have been downplaying the real reason, was that he had a number of other movie projects at the time, and he also did not wish to continually play the same villain in an ongoing movie series.
