Phantasm (1979) - 30 mistakes

Revealing: When Tall Man picks up the casket and shoves it in the hearse, you can see that the backside is flat and has no handle. You can also see the ties holding the flowers onto the casket.

Continuity: When Mike pulls the gear stick of his car in a close-up, he has blue trousers on. When he gets out to check the car, he has brown trousers on.

Continuity: In the beginning, when Mike and Jody raise the hood on the car, Jody's hand holding on to the hood alternates between his right and left hand over three shots.

Continuity: As Mike is working under his car, a ratchet wheel next to his hammer appears and then vanishes from shot to shot.

Continuity: As Mike is working under his car, the ratchet he holds swaps hands between shots.

Continuity: After the car falls off the jack Mike manages to squeeze himself out from under it. When he stands up the car is raised on the jack again.

Continuity: When Mike is working under the car he is lying on his back. After it falls off the jack he is on his stomach, but there is no room for him to have turned.

Continuity: When Mike smashes the window at Morningside, the glass shards around the window frame appear / disappear from shot to shot.

Continuity: When Mike hides in a casket, as he gets out, the lighter jumps from lying on the side of the casket, to in his right hand.

Continuity: When the sphere hits the man in the head it drains his blood. But when we see him lying on the ground there is no sign of the blood.

Continuity: When the door slams on The Tall Man's fingers, you can clearly tell that no fingers are really sticking out of the door when the door actually shuts.

Continuity: As Mike escapes from Morningside, two dwarves steal one of his trainers. He has it back on in all later scenes though.

Revealing: You can see the stick making the finger move when its in the box.

Continuity: As Mike opens the box, just before the big fly jumps out, the box is sitting on a small mat on the table. But in the close-up of the fly popping out of the box, the small mat isn’t under the box.

Revealing: When that big fly jumps out of the shredder, the white string that pulls it can be seen.

Continuity: After getting attacked by the dwarf, Jody runs to the window to escape, with nothing in his hands. In the next shot as he climbs out, he has his flashlight in his hand.

Continuity: Mike and the girls stop because they see Reggie’s ice cream van turned over in the road. But after the dwarves attack, and the girls drive off, the ice cream van has vanished.

Continuity: When Mike returns home, after the dwarves attacked him and the girls, he sits down with Jody. On the table next to them is a bottle of beer. But when Jody picks up Mike to take him upstairs, the beer has gone.

Revealing: When Mike is locked in his room, you can see a hole in the door from a kick in a previous take.

Factual error: Mike attaches a shotgun shell to a hammer to blow a hole in a door. This would be quite likely to kill him - in a shotgun blast, the explosive force, and hence the buckshot, is channelled along the gun barrel. Without a barrel to channel the force, the blast would send buckshot in all directions.
