Factual error: The Royal Navy named ships in line with the class of vessel that was being named. Compass Rose was a Flower class corvette, so should be named after a flower. At the time 'compass rose' didn't refer to a flower, but only to the pattern of directions shown on a map or compass, so the name would be inappropriate. 'Compass Rose' is now a recognised breed of rose, but it was only introduced in the mid 1990s.
