Real Genius (1985) - 10 mistakes

Continuity: In the scene where everyone is going to the Tanning Invitational, Chris grabs two Hawaiian Lei's and a straw hat from a girl at the door. He puts a blue lei on Mitch and holds on to the red one and the hat. The shot switches to just Chris and when it goes back to Mitch he has on the red lei. Back to Chris again who talks a little more then reaches over and puts the hat on Mitch's head, who is again wearing the blue lei.

Continuity: When Jordan brings in the automatic page turner she demonstrates it to Mitch. When it reaches over to turn the page the screen jumps and then the scene continues. This was two takes of the same shot spliced together poorly at the point that the page turner touches to the page on the right.

Continuity: In the scene where Chris has his epiphany about freezing the laser he jumps up, grabs the coffee machine and kicks the freezer door. This causes the bar on the freezer shelf to break and a can to fall off the door onto the floor. The shot cuts away to Lazlo coming out of Chris' room, then the shot goes back to Chris with his head in the freezer and the can is back on the door shelf.

Factual error: During the scene where the laser is used to heat the popcorn in Hathaway's house, the laser hist the ground, works its way up the side of the house and then settles on the window. At that point it stops moving. This seems impossible since the laser is being fired from a moving airplane and would constantly need a slightly different angle in order to keep hitting the house in the same spot.

Continuity: Mitch's discovery of the trap door in the closet is inconsistent with his previous attempts while Lazlo was entering the closet. The trap door opens slowly about 2-3 seconds after the door is closed, when in the past he has opened the door right after Lazlo entered and the trap door was closed.

Continuity: In the scene where Jerry tracks the mis-fired shot of the laser, the monitor displays a valley setting with a red cross-hair in the middle of it. It cuts to Jerry speaking, then back to the monitor where the display has changed to a residential area without the red cross-hair in the middle to show Jerry's house.

Other: When Mitch calls his mom asking to come home Kent and his friends hear him make the call. Mitch then has some conversation with his mother. Kent and his friends begin recording the conversation at the point where Mitch says "I want to come live with you". The problem is that when the recording gets played back in the cafeteria the conversation is replayed from the beginning which was before Kent had begun recording it.

Continuity: In the scene with the Smart People on Ice, Chris Knight is wearing earmuffs shaped like bears in the first shot. In the next shot they are around his neck and in the shot after that they are on his ears again.

Continuity: When Chris puts the liquid nitrogen coin into the coffee machine his hand drops down before he selects his coffee. His hand then change position quickly then he reaches up to select his coffee. This is obviously two different takes spliced together poorly to create this shot.

Revealing: When Kent rolls out of the front door with the popcorn, it is obviously a stunt double due to the man's hair being brown/black and Kent having blonde hair.
