Shallow Hal

Question: In the scene where Hal, Rosemary, the cripled friend, and Nurse "Sourpuss" go out of town, Hal and his friend got to buy snacks leaving Rosemary and "Sourpuss" to talk. There is a scene where thy cut to the front of the car and Nurse "Sourpuss" is now good looking. So is that her real look and Hal only sees her as old and ugly?

SAZOO1975

Chosen answer: Yes. Just as Hal sees many unattractive and/or overweight women to be thin and beautiful due to their true personalities, he sees Nurse "Sourpuss" - who is a beautiful woman - to be old and ugly due to hers.

Answer: At that point Hal and his friend had already turned their backs and went to the store so Hal was not even looking at her.

Answer: I thought maybe Hal's outlook was rubbing off on Rosemary and Rosemary was seeing that less than attractive woman as pretty.

Question: After the Tony Robbin's episode, Hal is supposed to see the true inner self of women reflected in their appearance. So what's with the chick across the hall? Her appearance doesn't change even though she is portrayed to be somewhat less than kind and shallow in her own right. Am I missing something?

Answer: Tony Robbins tells Hal that whenever he meets someone in the FUTURE he'll only see what's inside them. He already knows what the woman across the hall looks like so her appearance doesn't change, same goes for everybody else he's already seen before.

dan coakley..

Also remember she thinks he is shallow, does not mean she is a bad person herself...she went out with him once already.

This is the same reason why Rosemary's father looks the same either way as well. Hal said he's already seen him around the office (before being hypnotized).

Question: For years I've wondered about the scene where Hal meets Rosemary's doctor friend Dr. Sahid (in the children's hospital). Unless there's a cut or deleted scene I'm not familiar with, there's no relevance to the plot with meeting the doctor since he's never seen in the rest of the movie (therefore not knowing if his real appearance is different) - everyone else in the whole movie that Hal never met before ends up with a different appearance after the spell wears off (including men). Can anyone answer this?

Answer: I think he was in the movie to reinforce that she is a genuinely nice person and that she had a wide circle of friends who appreciated her.

Question: What is the title of the track that is playing when Hal gets into the taxi with Katrina, and he looks at her, noticing how beautiful she is?

Sharon Murray

Chosen answer: "The Edge of the Ocean" by Ivy.

Question: Who are all the people dancing around in the credits?

Answer: The crew. As the names come up those people are shown. Just a guess, but I think they were going along with the theme that there's more to people than what you see at first. With most people on film crews you only ever see their names on screen (if you haven't left the theater already!) So this took the extra step of showing that they're real people.

Question: Is it really always Gwyneth Paltrow's beautiful body that we see during all the shots of the striptease? I think when it is showed turned around it is a stunt double.

Answer: A stunt double was used for the "body" shots in the film. Additionally, Gwyneth's body was digitally modified for the posters and DVD/VHS covers to make her a bit fuller figured.

Answer: Because they wanted to perv. On the pretty ladies.

Question: What is the title and artist of the song that plays when Gwyneth Paltrow is taking off her clothes for Jack Black? It also plays at the end right after Jack says "Which is why I'm going with you."

Answer: It is "This is my World" by lead singer of Hootie and the Blowfish, Darius Rucker. Who also appears as the maitre'd at the restaurant where Hal sees the real Rosemary while out with his neighbor, Jill.

Question: Near the start of the film, Mauricio said he didn't like his girl Lindy's big second toe. Hal suggests what if she could have her toe filed down and Mauricio says "Then I'm dating a nub?" What exactly is a nub?

Answer: "Nub" is another word for "lump." Mauricio is so shallow that he's defining Lindy entirely by her toe, so if she had the toe filed down to a nub, then he would see her as that much in the same way he only views her as an elongated toe.

Continuity mistake: In the scene where Hal and his best friend are having a chat at the bar, Hal's best friend's beer refills after every scene when he takes a drink of it. (00:06:50)
