Trivia
Adding to the 'carpe dentum' contribution, if you look at Pierce Brosnan when Mrs Doubtfire gets up from the table, he is moments away from bursting out laughing. According to the commentary track on the dvd, it was this reference to Dead Poets Society that tickled Brosnan but he managed to keep a straight face and so they didn't need to reshoot. See more...
Mrs. Doubtfire (1993) - 22 mistakes
Directed by Chris Columbus, starring Pierce Brosnan, Robin Williams, Sally Field (add more)
Continuity: In the scene where the social worker is at Mr. Hillard's house and his so-called "sister" (Mrs. Doubtfire) is trying to find a face in the kitchen, one moment the wig is all messed up from being caught on the door. In the next scene, where she is looking in the fridge to find the face, her wig is perfectly in place.
Factual error: In one scene, Mrs. Doubtfire pulls the symbol off of Stu's car. She shouldn't have been able to do that, since a cable connects the symbol to the inside of the car.
Continuity: In the scene at the pool, when Pierce Brosnan dives into the pool and comes out look at his hairline, and look at it again in the next shot after his hair stylist intervened.
Visible crew/equipment: In the scene where Mrs. Doubtfire and the kids are on a trolley, as the trolley passes you can see the crew in the trolley window.
Continuity: At the end when the children learn that their dad is their new baby sitter, look at Chris' tassels on his coat from when they get to door to when Daniel says 'Go get your stuff' and he runs up stairs - between shots, his tassels are both hanging down, then hanging to the right, then hanging down etc. indicating this scene was shot at least twice.
Audio problem: During the final court case scene at the end of the film, Miranda's lawyer turns to her and says, 'congratulations'. Her head is turned away from our view slightly, but you can see that she doesn't move her mouth. It does move about a second after 'congratulations' is said, but it does not move long enough for her to have actually said 'congratulations'.
Continuity: In the scene where Mrs. Doubtfire and the family go to the pool to meet with Stu, you see the same two women in bikinis cross in front of the gate a few times in less than a minute, always going in the same direction.
Revealing: When the Hillards are at the pool, we see Stu, with his hairy chest, on the diving board. When the shot zooms out, we see a guy with no hair on his chest, who is obviously the stunt double.
Continuity: Daniel (disguised as Mrs Doubtfire) is cooking and knocks the cap of the pepperpot into the frying pan. In the following shot, Daniel hasn't removed the cap, but it's not there any more.
Continuity: In the scene in the kitchen while Daniel is looking for a face, his robe is not closed completely at the top, but as soon as Mrs. Stelner enters, the robe is done all the way up and quite tightly. After the face cream in the coffee, Mrs. Doubtfire leaves but quickly sticks her head back in the kitchen and her robe is again loose at the top.
Continuity: When Mrs. Doubtfire first sees Miranda and Stu, she opens the curtain, a black sleeve is visible but in the next shot she's wearing a blue and white top.
Continuity: When Mrs. Doubtfire is walking past the parked Mercedes it is a silvery grey colour but when he/she is leaning over to pull the symbol off it is blue.
Continuity: When Miranda enters the house during Chris's birthday party, she puts a blue box on a stand containing Chris's birthday cake. The box at this point is closed. In the next scene, the lid on the box is now open and a pony begins eating the cake.
Continuity: When Chris and Lydia discover that Mrs. Doubtfire is really their father, he explains Uncle Frank's and Aunt Jack's part in it. When it cuts back to Lydia, she has a long length of hair down the front of her right shoulder, but in the next shot, when she says, "It's really you in there," the hair is suddenly behind her shoulder.
Continuity: In the scene where Daniel and his kids are having dinner, when he's 'domesticized', the first pan shot is mirrored, because his daughter is looking to her left to congratulate him, but in the next shot and all the ones after that, he would be on her right, and the table would be flipped.
Continuity: When Daniel is in the bathtub, speaking in a German accent while on the phone with Miranda, he asks her how many children she has. At this point Daniel's chest is clean. It then cuts to Miranda who says, "I have two girls and a boy." In the next shot, however, Daniel's chest is suddenly covered in bubbles.
Continuity: When Harvey Feirstein's character is talking on the telephone to his mother about Daniel's divorce, he says "I love you, too." You then hear her say "I love you" afterward.
Continuity: In the scene where Mrs. Selner inspects Daniel's apartment after meeting Mrs. Doubtfire, Daniel is tidying up the place a bit. He picks up some articles of clothing, and then goes off to get his "sister". Before leaving down the hall, his pile of clothing is completely covered by a blue skirt or dress. But the next shot shows Daniel with a white article of clothing on top.
Continuity: When Mrs. Doubtfire and Miranda are talking in the kitchen, Miranda's necklace' beads are crooked. In the next shot after Mrs.Doubtfire is seen, Miranda's necklace is astoundingly perfect.
Plot hole: In the ad that Miranda shows Daniel, there are two phone numbers listed, presumably a work and home number, or work and mobile. However, Daniel calls Miranda, while impersonating other candidates, on three separate phone numbers. Daniel would only call her on two of the phone numbers.
Continuity: In the restaurant scene when Daniel puts the cayenne pepper on the jambalaya, Stu takes a shrimp and starts chewing it before he chokes on it. When Daniel comes and performs the Heimlich maneuver on him and the shrimp is coughed out, it's whole and unchewed.
