Beverly Hills Cop II (1987) - 49 mistakes

Continuity: In the scene where they are chasing the armored car in the cement truck the chutes on the truck keep going from being down to folded up. This happens several times in the scene.

Continuity: The guy in the armored car's passenger seat disappears and reappears during the chase.

Continuity: At the beginning, when the limo comes around the corner to the Jewelers, the license plate says one thing when the car turns the corner, then is a personalized plate reading something else when the car parks in front of the store.

Continuity: When Lt. Bogomil gets shot in a driveby while helping Brigette Nielsen's character with her car, you can plainly see that the driveby car is a black 1987 Camaro.   However, later in the movie the same gunmen are shown driving a black 1977 Camaro. [They could have changed car, but it doesn't seem likely...]

Continuity: When Eddie Murphy jumps onto the moving ready-mix concrete truck that Judge Reinhold has stolen, you can see that his gun falls out of his jeans, yet he is using it moments later.

Continuity: In the sequence when Dent's car goes over the ridge and crashes below, one shot shows the car going over the edge completely straight with its front end slamming into the ground below. The next shot, supposedly a split-second later, shows the car sideways while striking the ground, stopped almost completely and bursting into flames.

Visible crew/equipment: In the meeting at the police station with among others Chief Lutz and the mayor you see part of technical equipment in the top left corner of the screen - several times."

Continuity: In the opening scene, Eddie Murphy actually drives two different types of Ferrari - a 308 and a 328. During his journey, the cars keep changing.

Continuity: Bogomil is standing and looking down into the engine of Karla's car when the assassin drives up. However when the shot is fired, Bogomil rolls on the bonnet of the car. When was the bonnet closed?

Continuity: When Axel, Rosewood, and Taggart are racing to get to the City Deposit, Rosewood and Taggart fight over whether the light is green or red. Rosewood drives through it and hits another car. The red police beacon falls off the roof and onto the hood. As the car spins the beacon is gone. In the next shot we can see the beacon back on top of the car above Taggart's head.

Continuity: The limo used by Karla on the way to Adriains mysterously changes plates. The first shot of the limo you see a rainbow style vanity plate that reads DENT, after the cut-away, the plate is a different style and has alpha-numeric sequencing.

Continuity: The sunglasses on the guard at the warehouse at film's end disappear and reappear when Axel beats him up.

Continuity: When Axel, Taggart and Rosewood show up at Emperian Fields, they are driving a brown car, but when they drive to Dent's oil fields, they are driving a blue car.

Continuity: In the jewelery store the front door is locked by the employee at gun point. When Karla leaves she simply pushes the door open and walks out.

Continuity: Hugh Heffner disappears. In one clip he is right next to Axel. Three to four seconds later he is nowhere to be seen, even though the camera pans around, and the spot is quite crowded.

Continuity: After Axel shoots the screens in the gun club they show a shot of Karla and Russ talking about the shell casing. You can see the screens between and around them. There are no holes. Axel is also playing with the artificial laser sighted gun just as he was in the previous shots before he shot holes in the screens. Axel and Karla are later shown at the shooting range and the screens are perfectly intact.

Continuity: When Axel pulls into the warehouse to meet up with Vinnie he barely gets the Ferrari into the dock doorway and it is crooked when he parks it. After he gets out of the car the car is pulled in further into the doorway and parked straight.

Continuity: At the beginning of the film you see a jogger jogging on some kind of a sandy shingle surface. When Axel is in this man's house he finds his trainers. Axel picks picks up a left-footed trainer, but in the next shot he's holding a right-footed trainer.

Continuity: When Axel, Rosewood, and Taggart pull up beside the racetrack near the end of the film, you see both doors on the passenger side began to open. Axel is exiting the front, and Taggart is exiting the back. A split second later, we see the car from the driver side and Rosewood exits the front driver side, and Taggart exits the rear driver side. Apparently, they shot it with Taggart exiting the passenger rear when the car pulled up, then they shot it once the car was stopped with Taggart exiting the driver rear.

Plot hole: When the TV News report about Bogomil's shooting, they say that he was leading the investigation into "the so-called Alphabet Crimes". However before he was shot, there was only one crime - the Adriano's robbery.

Continuity: When Axel walks away from the receptionist in the Shooting Club with the bag of vitamins, in the close up he has his left hand below the bag, and holds the top with his right hand. But in the next shot he's suddenly let go with his left hand and only holds it from below with his right.

Continuity: When Bogomil stops to help Karla their cars are several meters apart. When Bogomil gets the first shot he rolls on the bonnet of Karla's car. He walks 1-1½ steps towards her. She pushes him back (i.e. towards her own car), but even so - he bumps into his own car. It was much further away and in a different direction.

Continuity: When Axel breaks into the Shooting Club he places a piece of gum on the door. He squeezes it flat with his finger. But in the next clips, the piece of gum is not flat - and its position has changed.

Continuity: The speed with which the cement truck's mixing barrel turns changes significantly between clips of the car chase - and in some clips it doesn't turn at all.

Continuity: When Chief Lutz is going through the case in the meeting with the mayor he says "There is no B and D." But there was a B - when Bogomil got shot. Didn't they find that letter?

Continuity: When Axel's knife breaks in the drawer in the Shooting Club, you can see that there is about 2 inches left of the blade. But when he holds up the knife there is only about 1 inch. Clearly not the same knife.

Continuity: When Axel is hunted in the garage by the black car backing up, you see the hole in it's back window. One shot later the hole is more than twice the size.

Continuity: At the oil fields warehouse Axel opens a crate of grenades on the back of the truck. The lid from the crate shifts slightly from when he opens it to when he reaches in and takes out some grenades.

Continuity: When Axel gets the bag of vitamins from Rosewood the bag is rolled/folded closed in one direction only. This is also seen after Axel wets his face with the water from the champagne bucket. After he wets his face he grips the back with the folded top of the back facing him. The next shot he is walking towards the receptionist with the bag facing her. The folded edge is now facing away from him. The single folded edge is best seen after he picks up the bag from the receptionist's desk.

Continuity: When Axel, Rosewood, and Taggart are racing to to get to the City Deposit, Rosewood takes a hard left turn. During this turn we can see that Axel is in the passenger seat and Taggart is in the back seat. Axel's Lions jacket is best seen with slo-mo or paused video. The next shot Taggart is in the front seat on the police radio and Axel is in the back seat. This clip was taken from later in the movie when the guys are racing to the Emperian Fields race track and Axel is in the front seat with Taggart in the back seat.

Continuity: When Dent's crew are outside the race track in their limo, Dent is tapping a cigarette and holding something silver. In the next shot his hands are empty.

Continuity: Following the final showdown, the bad guy is shot while trying to run Axel over. The car then crashes through a wall and a fence and plunges down a bank landing on its nose/bonnet. When it explodes, it is lying on its side.

Continuity: When Axel is fighting one of Maxwell Dent's thugs at the end scene, his sun-glasses vanish and re-appear throughout the scene.

Continuity: When Bogomil stops to help Karla, the driver's window in his car is slightly open. When he lies shot on the ground, it is all the way down.

Continuity: The two $10 bills Axel gets from the gun club receptionist get very wrinkled when Axel squeezes them. But when he walks away, holding the bills up, they are totally straight.

Revealing: At the end of the movie, the trio arrive at the oil fields, crouch behind the rear of a car and Axel picks up some red dirt, explaining that it's the same as what was on Bogomil's shoes, and the horse. It is obvious that the crew just spread a small area of red dirt around for the shot. The majority of the area is regular brown dirt.

Continuity: When Axel, Rosewood, and Taggart are getting shot at at the oil fields a machine gun tears up the "Property of The US Air Force" crate in front of them. A few seconds later from a distance we can see that the crate is in perfect condition without bullet holes.

Continuity: When Axel, Rosewood, and Taggart are racing to get to the City Deposit, Rosewood takes a hard left turn. During the turn the red police beacon falls off of the car. The next shot looking into the car you can see the beacon back on top of the car.

Continuity: After being put on leave, Bogomil leaves the office and is driving towards the camera. His car is being followed, then passed by, the Mercedes Benz driven by Karla Fry. The license plate on the front of Bogomil's car is 2CTE919. When he pulls over to help Karla the license plate on the front of his car has changed to 2CTE673.

Continuity: When Taggart is shouting at Axel in the pool he has his glasses on. In the next shot of him slipping into the pool, his glasses are gone.

Continuity: The construction worker Axel talks to at the beginning yanks off his hat (when he says "Son of a..."), but it jumps back to his head after the angle changes.

Continuity: As Axel is driving down the street right before he cons the builders out of the house, you can see in the background a lot of cars as it is a busy street. Axel then makes a U-turn in the middle of the street without getting hit, and no other car is ever seen on this road.

Continuity: When Axel, Rosewood, and Taggart are racing to get to the Emperian Fields racetrack the red police beacon once again falls off of the car on a hard left turn. The next shot the beacon is back on top of the car.

Factual error: Ronnie Cox is shot in the heart at point blank range by Brigitte Neilsen, and it looks to me like she's using a large caliber handgun. Keeping track of the action of the film tells us that Cox is sitting up in bed chatting to his friends just three days later. What nonsense. Even if he did survive (unlikely) he'd still be in Post-Op Intensive Care at that stage. He wouldn't be conscious, let alone allowed visitors.

Continuity: In the scene at the police station with Lutz, the Mayor and others, the Mayor starts rolling down his sleeves as he prepares to put his jacket on and depart. But in the very next shot (only a second later based on continuous audio) his jacket is completely on as he is walking out. There was insufficient time for him to do this.

Continuity: When Bogomil was running out at Dent's oil fields it was a dry and dusty day. He stopped and picked up some of the dirt - and it was very loose. But there is wet mud on his sneakers. Furthermore with the amount of mud left underneath he would have had to have gotten into a car immediately and driven home - not run - otherwise it would have fallen off. There is so much mud that he couldn't have walked many steps without it falling off.

Continuity: When Axel, Rosewood, and Taggart are racing to to get to the City Deposit, Rosewood runs over several parking meters on the sidewalk which heavily damages the front end of the car. However, later when Taggart catches up to Axel and Rosewood outside the Playboy Mansion, he's driving the exact same car, complete with the police light, but the front end isn't damaged at all.

Continuity: In the ending shootout, Judge Reinhold extends a rocket launcher. Then, several seconds later, he does it again.

Continuity: When they are in the police station using the co-ordinates that were locked in the drawer of Charles Cain's office it comes up with 9762 Gregory Way for the city deposit but when they are driving to the city deposit Sergeant Taggart radios in that they need help at 341 Gregory Way.
