The alley that Katherine Erbe goes down to visit the big, black guy Neal is the same alley that Kiefer Sutherland goes down in Flatliners before he first gets beaten by the hockey stick kid. Kiefer crosses an intersection and gets passed by cyclists right before he goes down the alley. It's shot years apart and the neighborhood has changed a bit, but I assure you (I live nearby), it is the same alley entrance.
When Kevin Bacon kicked the bucket and broke the window it was coincidence. He was supposed to just kick it up against the house. When he broke it he just kept walking so they kept it in the movie.
