Young Frankenstein

Trivia: Marty Feldman played a joke on Mel Brooks by randomly moving his character's hump from one side to the other during filming. When Brooks realised what was happening, rather than being upset or reshooting all the scenes to preserve continuity, he turned it into a running joke within the film (adding the exchange where Dr. Frankenstein asks Igor if his hump has switched sides).

Trivia: At the beginning when the coffin is opened, the clock strikes 13 times.

Trivia: The Laboratory equipment is the same equipment used in the original Frankenstein.

Trivia: Another time you can see Gene Wilder laughing when he's not supposed to be is after he finds out the project failed (the quiet, dignity, and grace speech). He starts strangling the monster, and you can see that he is stifling laughter. Finally, he can't hold it in any longer and proceeds to partially hide his face behind the monster lying on the table in an attempt to cover up his smirks (but you can still see that he is laughing).

Trivia: The cast and especially Mel Brooks had so much fun and were so upset when principal photography was almost completed, that Mel added scenes to continue shooting.

Trivia: The scene where Igor says, 'Walk this way,' meaning to follow him, and Dr. Frankenstein imitates his limp, was the inspiration for Aerosmith's classic song 'Walk This Way'. The band had written out some lyrics and part of a tune, but they needed a continuing line to make it click. When they caught a late night showing of Mel Brooks's masterpiece, and they saw the scene, they knew they had it.

Trivia: There are several gargoyles in the laboratory. If you look closely you can see that they have Mel Brooks' face.

Trivia: The song and dance number with Dr. Frankenstein and the monster almost didn't make it into the film. Director Mel Brooks thought it would be too cheesy and wouldn't do anything to advance the plot. Gene Wilder, (who wrote the script) wanted to show how tenuous the doctor's control over the monster was. So, he argued for the scene. Mel was adamant, Gene was more so. He argued for it until he was blue, then red in the face. Finally, Mel allowed it in the film saying, "It felt wrong but I knew that if you fought hard enough for it, it was right."

Trivia: The assistant property master's name, Charles Sertin, is on the third brain on the shelf.

Trivia: The line "walk this way" is used in many of director Mel Brooks' other films.

Trivia: Throughout this movie, Gene Wilder barely stifles genuine laughter. An easy spot to find this is when Igor bites the fur of Madeline Kahn's mink. Wilder says "Stop that." and can be easily seen laughing.

Trivia: When the monster angrily leaves the blind hermits home, the hermit asks him to come back and then says, "I was gonna make espresso." Gene Hackman ad-libbed that line.

Trivia: When the mob is carrying torches and saying "Kill the monster", one villager doesn't have a torch and if you watch carefully, he runs into a tree. This is the blind villager, played by Gene Hackman.

Continuity mistake: When the casket slides off the wagon, breaks open and cracks a couple of its wood slats, the arm from the body is not protruding from it until Igor and Frederick come up to it in the next shot.

Dr. Frederick Frankenstein: You know, I'm a rather brilliant surgeon. Perhaps I can help you with that hump.
Igor: What hump?

Question: Dr Frankenstein tells a student at a lecture he is giving that he is not interested in death but the preservation of life. If this is true then why would he continue in the footsteps of his grandfather?

Answer: That's how he felt at that moment. He became inspired to follow in his grandfather's footsteps after reading his books.
