In an early shot shown from the neighbor's house, it is established that the Spencers' house is quite a ways uphill. Some of the later shots where Claire is spying on her neighbors and looking at their home, the angle of view does not appear to be correct. The neighbors' house looks like it's a lot closer and more level with the Spencers' home. See more...

Robert Zemeckis filmed most of this movie during a halt in the filming of "Cast Away."
Harrison Ford rarely, if ever, stars in horror or suspense, save for this one. He was later asked if he liked horror films and if he had a favorite from that genre, and his reply was 'No. No, I don't.'
When Claire goes to Madison's house, there is a framed picture of Madison and underneath it, there is a newspaper clipping from "The Guardian" that is very prominant. This certainly signifies what Madison was to Claire.
There are more than a few Hitchcock references in this movie. Most notably Harrison Ford's character - Norman (Psycho), suspecting the neighbour of murdering his wife (Rear Window), Michelle Pfeiffer falling in the shower and pulling the shower curtain down with her (Psycho). There are many others if you watch for them.
