Deliberate "mistake": During the Gaston song in the tavern, Gaston is wearing a pull over shirt with no buttons in front. At one point in the song he rips open his shirt to show off the hair on his chest. The very next second, however, his shirt is back to normal. The shirt is not ripped or disheveled, and it is completely unscathed as if it had never been ripped open or torn apart.
Beauty and the Beast (1991) - 246 mistakes
Directed by Gary Trousdale, starring Angela Lansbury, Bradley Pierce, David Ogden Stiers, Jerry Orbach, Jesse Corti, Paige O'Hara, Rex Everhart, Robby Benson (add more)
Continuity: Outside Belle's house there is a wishing well situated on the grass directly in front of the window and cellar doors, plainly seen in the initial shot of Belle leaving her home to go to town. However in the scene where Chip gets Maurices woodcutter going, as it hurtles towards the cellar doors in a wideshot, the wishing well has vanished!!
Continuity: In the tavern, which is the setting for the 'Gaston' song, right at the end of the bar there is a thick wooden beam attached to the bar and the ceiling. You can see this beam clearly when Le Fou sings "No-one's slick as Gaston...", and he prances around and then grabs the beam. However, right at the end of the Gaston song when they sing "So his marriage we soon will be celebrating...", the camera pans backwards out to the window, but the wooden beam has vanished.
Factual error: When Gaston is trying to get to Belle through the bustling market, as the camera pans into the market and we hear the lines "Good Day" "Bonjour" "You call this bacon" "What lovely grapes", to the left of the screen you can see two signs hanging up. The first reads "La Puissance" and is for a fish stall. The correct term would probably be "Le Poisson." Secondly there is a pig shaped sign which reads "Le Jamon" - this should be "Le Jambon", which means "ham".
Continuity: When Belle opens the bedroom door for Mrs. Potts and Chip, in the close-up the bottom corners of the doors are aligned perfectly with the edge of the floor tiles, when both doors are closed. Later, when Cogsworth comes in to announce dinner, the bottom corners of the doors are above the center of the tile, when the doors are closed. This should never change.
Continuity: Whilst Maurice sits in the Masters chair, Cogsworth is knocked down by the trolley with Mrs. Potts on it, and he falls down on the large red part of the carpet. It then cuts to Mrs. Potts, then back to Cogsworth who is still lying down, however now he's suddenly lying on the white part of the rug.
Continuity: When Belle meets Mrs Potts for the first time, Belle approaches the door to let her in. In the shot of Belle walking toward the door, the door handles are both the vertical "thumb-button" latch that you would grip the handle and push down on the thumb piece (with your thumb, of course) to release the latch. But in the next shot when she opens the door (and when she is first shown her room), the door handles are diagonal "lever style" handles that you have to turn downward with your whole hand to open the door.
Continuity: In the newer version on VHS by Disney, including the song 'Human Again', that added scene completely messes with the movie. During the scene the servants clean up the castle and make it pretty and happy. However, when it switches back to the scenes from the original movie, the outside of the castle is no longer clean until the end of the movie and the spell is broken.
Continuity: During the film's introduction, as the camera pans away from the castle during the storm, there is a crack of thunder and a lightning flash. As the lightning strikes you can see a black branch growing on the side of the castle/cliff disappears after the flash of lighting. The animators forgot to draw it, so it just vanishes.
