Tomb Raider (2001) - 40 mistakes

Revealing: When Lara Croft goes into the water near the end to try to save her male rival, Alex West, after he is stabbed and ground between the gears, when Lara stands up, you can see the make-up coming off of her arm that covers Angelina Jolie's "Billy Bob" tattoo.

Continuity: Near the end of the movie, Lara Croft and Manfred Powell (Iain Glen) both draw their pistols and have them pointed at each others head. Powell suggest that the two put the guns down and settle it hand to hand. The two lay their guns down and fight. As the fight is progressing the cave is falling in around them. Laura knocks Powell out and begins to run for the exit and she does not slow down. As she makes it to the exit you can see her pistols in their holsters on her legs. This is edited from a longer sequence, as seen on DVD, but still a mistake in the theatrical release.

Revealing: When Lara gets out of the bath, you can see a strap on her shoulder which means that Lara wasn't naked when she got out of the bath.

Continuity: When Powell is trying to get into the Tomb of the Dancing Light, you see Alex West take off his shirt and start pulling the rope. However, the very next shot is of the gate coming down, and he is standing in the bottom left hand of the screen, with his shirt on.

Continuity: When Lara is holding onto the arm that has crushed Alex when Powell is saying that they can change his fate, she climbs up, but all of a sudden, she climbs up onto the ground where Powell is walking, and says "You had better be ready for this." If she was holding onto the arm which had stopped due to Alex's body being there how did she get to the ground so fast? You can see from the curve that it is the arm and NOT the ground.

Continuity: In the scene with the time storms, when the dog jumps through the time storm, we see it change through the muscle and bone layers. But when Lara throws the clock in a time storm and reaches in for the piece, nothing happens to her hand.

Continuity: During the Fight Scene between Lara Croft and Manfred Powell, after Lara has hit him in the throat and he collapses, she retrieves a locket from his clothing. The next shot is from a different angle, showing his prostrate form with only Lara's legs and waist visible, including the hand that held the locket. Guess what.. it's no longer in her hand.

Continuity: When the UPS man walks through the door into Lara's house, there is a close-up of his feet which shows him walking through debris from the previous night gunfight, but a longer shot shows no debris on the floor behind him. Then another close-up shot shows debris in front of him, which looks remarkably like the debris he's just supposed to have walked through.

Revealing: During the bungee scene it is meant to be night-time, but when the camera pans up to the sky light you can clearly see blue sky and clouds.

Revealing: Towards the end, when the knife's being pulled out of someone, you can clearly see this was a retractable blade with a pre-painted blood-pattern, as the blood on the knife at his chest level doesn't change - it stays static as the knife handle rises.

Revealing: In the scene in the ice cave, Lara rings the bell to break down the wall. Funny the icicles hanging from the bell never move or fall.

Continuity: Near the end when Alex West gets stabbed and falls into the water, he becomes jammed between the gears, and the rotating arms of the big machine stop. The next shot shows Manfred Powell walking around the edge of the water with the arms still moving.

Continuity: When Lara is bungee-jumping in her house (just before Powell's henchmen break in to steal the clock) she takes her starting jump off the stone barrier upstairs. The shot shows the ropes are attached to the ceiling about a metre in front of her starting position. In the next shot though, she is bouncing from the middle of the room, in front of the central chandelier, so between shots, the ropes attached to the ceiling moved across.

Visible crew/equipment: Just before Lara wakes up and finds the clock, she is dreaming that she is outside entering a tent. As she puts out her hand to push the tarpaulin aside to go in, you can see the outline of a string or wire pulling the tarpaulin to one side.

Continuity: When Lara hears the clock & finds where the noise is coming from,she smashes the fake wall in.When she does that,there is just a big hole but when we see the camera view from inside the secret room,there is a little piece of wood going right through the hole.

Continuity: At the end when Lara is fighting Powell there is a shot from behind Powell that shows Lara's hair over her shoulder. The shot changes to behind Lara and her hair is at her back - the action doesn't move during shot changes.

Continuity: In the beginning scene where Lara is switching the disks in Simon she gets some sort of fluid on her left hand, however in the next shot, when she is closing the disk case, it's gone.

Continuity: At the beginning, right after Lara gets the bottle from the butler's hands, she walks towards the stairs and, while they are filming her from her back, she gets really close to the first step, but when the scene changes to her front, she is still half way to the stairs.

Continuity: Near the beginning, just after Lara has rushed over Tower Bridge on her bike and is outbid at the auction, she is talking to Alex West, I think. Several times, the shot changes between a close-up of Angelina Jolie's face and a wider shot of Lara and Alex. In the wide shot, the light is on Lara's left cheek, but in the close-up the entire left side of her face is in shadow.

Other: Towards the end of the movie, Lara Croft and the bad guys are in the frozen ruins of an ancient civilisation. Upon reaching the outskirts of the ruins one of the characters mentions that the ancient city is a "dead zone" which I understood to mean it was an anomalous area where electrical devices wouldn't work - not just no communications, because the vehicles stop working and Bryce's laptop just dies. Once inside the city however, the laser rifle sight worked just fine.

Continuity: When Lara is bouncing on the black ropes and flipping around, at one point her shirt flips up and her body makeup must have started to wear off because you can see the large tattoo on her lower back, yet the next times she flips, her back is all one colour.

Continuity: After Lara tried to save Alex in the water, below the planets, she starts pulling up on the metal arm of a planet. The next shot she suddenly pulls up on the concrete floor.

Revealing: When everyone dogsleds toward their objective, you can see the filming crew's snowmobile tracks at the bottom of the screen.

Factual error: When Lara is on the back of the robot extracting wires, you can see her from it's eyes. That's impossible due to the shape of the head.

Plot hole: When the Illuminati are breaking into the tomb of the dancing light, Lara is watching them through binoculars. She sees them, and even comments about Alex. How did she see them through all the trees? There were loads underneath her.

Continuity: What happens to all the men that attack the house to steal the clock? She kicks loads of their arses, and they just disappear.

Continuity: At the beginning of the movie after Lara tears a bunch of wires out of Simon, the robot freezes. Lara takes a few - at least 8 - steps towards the treasure - so Simon's about 15 feet behind her - and in the next moment when Simon regains consciousness he's right behind Lara's back. We did't hear the robot moving, only when he got up. How the hell did Simon get there?

Factual error: Lara's father's tombstone reads 'Lord Richard Croft'. Surely even brainless Hollywood types know that it should read either 'Lord Croft' or 'Richard, Lord Croft'?

Factual error: In the fight scene in Lara's garage, she rides her motorbike towards the guy attacking her, does a front wheelie and knocks him out with the rear wheel by braking and turning the bike on its front wheel. The back end of the bike then gently lowers itself to the ground, rather than dropping heavily under the force of gravity.

Continuity: During the scene where Lara steals the first half of the triangle, she ends up in front of all the people with guns, and she pulls out the piece as a way to gloat, when all of a sudden, the huge three-headed stone woman warrior comes to life and everyone starts to move away. Lara turns around, and she then starts to move away, but by then the piece isn't in her hand anymore, and she didn't have time to put the piece away...

Continuity: Just before Lara finds the clock, she is coming down the stairs. If you look at the windows you can see light coming in, but when she goes outside to get Bryce, it is still dark and she even tells him that she found the clock last night.

Continuity: At the beginning of the movie when Lara is fighting with Simon, he knocks her down on her back and you can see dust and dirt all over her back. She flips herself up and her back is now clean.

Plot hole: If the ancient civilization wanted to stop people from ever using the power of the triangle again, why didn't they just destroy the triangle right then and there instead of splitting it in two and hiding the pieces? It would make sure that no one would ever get the power of the triangle and is easier than going to ends of the earth and creating all sorts of traps and challenges.

Continuity: When Lara is in the secret room and is digging out the clock, she puts the lid against the crate and covers it with straw; but in the next shot, the lid is in a different place, and is no longer covered in straw.

Factual error: When Lara is about to be air-dropped into Cambodia, she concludes her transmission to the plane crew by saying: "Over and out." Even a novice two-way radio user would know better. "Over" means "I stop talking and await your reply", while "out" means "I am finished..no reply needed.goodbye." They cannot be used together.

Continuity: In Cambodia, when Lara spots the second little girl, her plait is over her right shoulder, and in the next shot, it is down her back.

Continuity: When Lara is getting into her car, she has a headset type microphone going down the side of her face. Yet when she gets into the car, the microphone is gone.

Continuity: When Manfred Powell and Alex West enters the temple in the forest, they are close to each other but in the next shot, Manfred enters before Alex.

Continuity: When Lara meets Powell in Venice, his cigar switches from his left to his right hand between shots.

Continuity: After Lara's battle with the robot Simon at the beginning of the movie, the Butler gives Lara a bottle, which she picks up in her right hand. However, the shot changes and Lara is now walking towards the camera, with the bottle in her left hand.
