Updated this week Plot hole: Rose is finally rescued from the water by fifth officer Lowe in boat number 14. The night of the sinking, this same boat also rescued the people of another boat half full of water, boat A. And who is in this boat? The infamous Hockley! So in broad daylight, Rose and Cal arrived at the Carpathia, in the same lifeboat, without seeing each other.

Updated this week Other: In the scene where Jack and Cal are trying to persuade Rose to enter a lifeboat, light rain can be seen falling in alternate shots, for example as Cal is saying 'I have an arrangement with an officer on the other side of the ship'. There was no rain during the sinking – it was a calm night. This mistake also shows that the scene was filmed on separate days, as the rain is only seen in some shots.

Updated this week Factual error: When the captain declares to Bruce Ismay that the last boilers have been lighted, it's only half true. Sunday morning, the last "regular" boilers were lighted to reach a total of 24 out of 29. The five boilers of the auxiliary boiler room number one are not in operation yet. The day after, weather permitting, it was planned to light them on for a few hours to see if the Titanic had something in the ball.

Mistake Factual error: The lake that Jack told Rose he went ice fishing on when she was threatening to jump is Lake Wissota, a man-made lake in Wisconsin near Chippewa Falls (where Jack grew up). The lake was only filled with water in 1918 when a power company built a dam on the Chippewa River, six years after the Titanic sank.

Mistake Visible crew/equipment: When Jack comes to the first class door for the first time in his tux, you can see a cameraman in the glass door before he enters.

Mistake Continuity: When Jack and Rose are going down with the ship, there is a man holding onto the flagpole. The man's life jacket disappears and reappears.

Mistake Other: In the beginning of the film, when Jack is running to the boat on the pier, his rucksack is a Swedish Army rucksack, model 1939, and nowadays widely sold as army surplus.

Mistake Continuity: When Rose and Jack run through the dining room with Cal shooting them, notice that the floor is tilted to reflect the ship sinking. In the next scene when they run down the stairs, the floor is now perfectly level. There is no tilt to the floor. Notice how the water tumbles out of the door - it falls on a flat surface and disperses evenly with no angle to it.

Mistake Continuity: When Jack and Rose finally come aboard the top of the ship after she rescues him they ask the Colonel if there are any boats left and he says "up that way" The woman on the left, who looks kind of pathetic, is then later seen on the life boat with Molly Brown. (They show her face right after Molly says the line "its your men out there") The life boat with Molly Brown in it was sent out before the scene with the Colonel, meaning that she must have gone on the life boat, swam back onto the ship and then back onto the lifeboat.

Mistake Other: When Rose demands to be taken down in the elevator to look for Jack, the shadows cast on Rose's face are moving down. Surely if the elevator is moving down, then the shadows cast from outside the elevator would be moving up on Rose's face.

Mistake Continuity: When Rose is trying to rescue Jack she spies a fire axe. Smashing all the glass out from the holder she grabs the axe and turns round. The next camera shot shows Rose standing in front of the case with almost all of its glass intact.

Mistake Continuity: When Jack is persuading Rose not to jump, Jack's shirt collar changes position several times, revealing his white t-shirt from a little to a lot.

Mistake Continuity: Just as Titanic breaks apart, the compass platform (seen in front of the third funnel when the lights were still on) suddenly disappears. The water isn't even high enough to have reached its aft-most legs. The white projection on the deck that held the chandelier in the lounge is also gone, and the ventilator that sits on it is flush with the deck.

Mistake Factual error: When Jack is handcuffed to the pipe below decks, the elbow joint is a modern welded joint, not a bolted flange joint as in the rest of the ship. I'm sure this was done to allow Jack to move about with greater ease as the water level rose.

Mistake Continuity: Look closely at the location of Rose's beauty-mark the first time you see her at the dock. It is on the opposite side of her face during the rest of the movie.

Mistake Deliberate "mistake": When Jack and Fabrizio are at the bow, the anchor well below them is black. Along with that, the foremost railing is not connected with the rest. But when Rose and Jack are there the well is white and the railing connects. Plus during the "flying" sequence the gap between the vertical bits of the railing is different in different shots of the ship.

Mistake Continuity: Just as Jack begins to draw naked Rose, he draws a dark line down the center of his paper. In the next shot of the page the line is suddenly much fainter (over to the right) and he is now drawing her face.

Mistake Factual error: Rose mentions Austrian psychoanalyst Sigmund Freud's ideas on the male preoccupation with size to Bruce. However this is 1912, and Freud did not publish the work relating to this until 1920 in "The Pleasure Principle." Also, up until 1919, Freud relied solely on data from females.

Mistake Revealing: When Rose is running in the hallways trying to find help for Jack when he is hand-cuffed, she finds a man and asks him to help her free Jack. She gets frustrated with him and says "listen" then hits him. In shots before (you can put it in slow motion to see it) you can look at the man's hand and it already has blood on it before he touches his face.

Mistake Continuity: After being shot at by Cal, Rose and Jack race down the hallways outrunning the rising water. Rose is wearing white sneakers, yet she is seen two minutes later wearing period shoes when Jack retrieves the gate key that the crewman dropped beneath the rising water.

Mistake Revealing: When the ship tilts to a vertical position, you see people falling and hitting objects on the deck. In a close up of that, you can see that a black and bronze-topped capstan has wrinkles in it and bends when someone hits it.

Mistake Visible crew/equipment: During the sinking scene when the ship breaks up, a couple of men are dragged into the break up point (were it snaps in two) and you can see the cables they use to be pulled or to slide in.

Mistake Continuity: When Rose's mother is getting into the lifeboat and Rose runs off to find Jack, she is the only person on the boat whose breath is not freezing.

Mistake Continuity: At the beginning of the film, when Brock is being taped in the submersible, the sub is already underwater. Only seconds later, if you look out the circular window, it's the reflective tops of the waves. Did they just rise up to the surface suddenly?

Mistake Continuity: When the ship is about to leave the dock, there's a lot of people saying goodbye to the ones that are going to leave the city. In the following shots, you can see Jack and his friends playing cards inside the pub. If you look through the window you won't see anyone. In the next shot, when Jack leaves the pub, the crowd is there again.

Mistake Visible crew/equipment: When the ship is sinking, there is a shot of Victor Garber leaning against the wall in deep contemplation. The camera angle is very tilted and a few things slide off the shelf in front of him. Look carefully on the DVD and you'll see a wire coming out under his arm behind him pulling the china cup off the shelf.

Mistake Continuity: When Officer Murdoch looks down the stairway from boat deck to see A deck flooding below, the stairway video is reversed. The railing is on his left (looking down stairs) and the water is coming in the left side. This is wrong as shown by previous scene of man climbing stairs with railing on right, later by overhead video of stairway, and by ship plans.

Mistake Other: During one side shot of the ship sinking at night, the bow has clearly begun to slide under. There are several lines hanging off the side of the boat. The lines are perpendicular to the boat, not the water, indicating that the model was filmed when level and tilted digitally.

Mistake Continuity: When Jack and Rose are talking on the deck. Rose is explaining to Jack why she considered jumping. She stated that she felt that she was screaming at the top of her lungs and no one was listening. He looks at her ring and states that she'd sink straight to the bottom...yadda, yadda, yadda. If you watch that scene, pay attention to Rose's hair. One second, her hair in perfectly curled with bangs, then it is behind her ears. It alternates back and forth: bangs, no bangs, bangs, no bangs until she grabs his portfolio and they sit down on the chairs to look at his drawings.

Mistake Continuity: When Rose and Cal are on the private promenade drinking coffee, Cal puts his coffee cup on his saucer plate twice.

Mistake Other: When Jack and Rose are running through the boiler room not only is there no door between boiler room 6 and the cars but the cars were kept two decks higher, and there was a shaft between them.

Mistake Visible crew/equipment: When Jack and Rose enter the flooding dining room as Cal is chasing them there is a light and some equipment that can be seen through the window.

Mistake Deliberate "mistake": (Disc 2 Ch 13 for DVD)When Rose and Jack are running down the corridor after the water breaks down the doors and comes rushing in, Rose has on flat shoes instead of heels. This was probably done for safety reasons.

Mistake Other: When the stern (back) of the Titanic is rising into the air, there is one shot where it appears bone dry. Easily hundreds of gallons of water would have been pouring off the still wet hull.

Mistake Factual error: When the men are checking the store room for Rose and Jack, the men are using huge battery powered bright white flash lights that look like they're from Jurassic Park, which were not around in 1912. Back then they would have produced yellow light.

Mistake Revealing: Many scenes used computer graphics to show the length of the ship. Passengers were also added walking on deck. The shadows for the passengers don't always match. Sometimes the angle of the sun distorts shadows. So the shadow of a woman's hat appears much larger than the actual one she's wearing, much like a person's shadow at sunset can appear to be that of a giant.

Mistake Continuity: In the early scene where Jack wins the tickets for the voyage, his hand-rolled cigarette is thin and almost done just before he shows his hand. About five seconds later, the cigarette is fatter and longer.

Mistake Continuity: The pipe on the starboard side of the forward smokestack changes by the time the ship sinks. When Captain Smith tells Murdock to speed up the ship it bends at the top and creates a half circle. But when it is collapsing behind Cal, it has the shape of a "P."

Mistake Deliberate "mistake": When Jack draws Rose the hand that is shown in close-up is much too old to be his. [It's James Cameron's hand - still a mistake, but there's why.]

Mistake Continuity: When Jack is drawing Rose, the first close-up of Jack's hand shows charcoal on his thumb and nail which vanishes seconds later on the next close-up.

Mistake Continuity: At the part when Jack or Rose (I can't tell which) wipes their hand on the fogged up window, they show it again in the next shot and you can definitely tell it's a completely different handprint.

Mistake Revealing: In one of the sinking scenes, you can see the rectangular strobe lamps showing through the fabric in the glass dome.

Mistake Continuity: When Rose is lying on the piece of board and she is trying to wake Jack by shaking his hands and such, there is some frozen stuff under Jacks nose. The scene cuts back to Rose and when we go back to Jack the ice isn't there. Then the scene cuts back to Rose and the next time we see Jack he has it on his face again.

Mistake Continuity: When Jack and Cal finally convince Rose to get on the lifeboat, Jack's hair is very scruffy with slight curls at the tips. When Rose jumps back on the ship, and Jack runs back inside to meet Rose again, his hair is perfectly straight and very well conditioned.

Mistake Continuity: When Jack is asking Rose to dance after dancing with the little girl "Cora", you will notice that Jack's hair is down when first asking her and when the camera goes to Rose and then back to Jack that it is back up with, all nice and neat.

Mistake Continuity: When one boat drives back to search for survivors, you can see the lightspot of one lamp turn around faster than the man who hold this lamp, so you know that the lightspot is not from the lamp of this man, but from a studio lamp. The man sees that himself and turns around very quickly to hold the speed of the spotlight.

Mistake Visible crew/equipment: When Jack and Rose are running away from Cal to the first class dining room, if you look at the glass you can see a black screen, a light, and a crewman.

Mistake Continuity: Right before dinner, Jack and Rose are talking to the Astors, and Molly comes up from behind them, asking Jack to escort her to dinner as well. In the next scene, when Cal calls back to Rose, Molly is still walking up to them.

Mistake Factual error: A small one & probably only noticed by dog trainers like me.  When the dogs are being brought on board, they are on leather leashes made by J&J Dog Supplies, invented in the 1970s.  It is the type of leash preferred by professional trainers, who probably supplied the dogs for the movie, and is distinguished by the "braid" near the snap, rather than by a sewn or riveted section.  J&J's website is: www.jandjdog.com.  You can see the leashes there.

Mistake Revealing: When Rose breaks Jack's handcuffs with an axe she doesn't hit the handcuffs on the pipe but Jack's hand. The handcuffs come apart by themselves.

Mistake Continuity: After Rose cuts Jack's handcuffs with the axe there is no chain left in between the two wrist cuffs. There was enough room between his hands to stretch them across the pipe so there must have been at least a few inches of chain. Surely there would have been some chain links left on one side or the other depending on where she cut it.

Mistake Factual error: When Rose, Jack and his friends come up to the boat deck while the ship is sinking, they ascend using the second class staircase and its exit on the deck. When Jack lets go of the door it is able to hit the side of the deckhouse. On the actual Titanic there were walls on the bow side of each door, which supported an overhang above the entrance. This is not included in many scenes in the movie.

Mistake Revealing: When Cal shoots at Rose and Jack he hits a decorative wooden structure on top of a banister. When the piece falls apart you can see that it has been neatly cut in the middle, and you also see the explosive device that blew it apart.

Mistake Factual error: The Master-at-Arms office, where Jack is handcuffed, was in actuality an inside cabin and had no portholes at all.

Mistake Deliberate "mistake": In actuality, the Palm Court (the place where Rose, Cal, and Ruth have lunch with Thomas Andrews, Bruce Ismay, and Molly Brown) did not serve full meals. Only beverages and small snacks like tea sandwiches, pastries, and crumpets were served there. It is quite obvious that the group is supposed to be having lunch based on the items they order (sausage, lamb, salmon, etc.). James Cameron probably set the lunch scene in this location rather than the First-Class Dining Room (the only location where a First-Class passenger could order a full meal [besides their stateroom, of course]) so that Jack and Rose would have a realistic chance of seeing each other for the first time, being as the Palm Court veranda overlooked the Poop Deck.

Mistake Deliberate "mistake": In the scene at the start of the movie with the "authentic" piece of film, you can see a girl with a hat waving to the people at the ground. When the ship is leaving port in the film, she and others are in the same positions, only in reverse, because the first "authentic" shot is the same shot, only reversed.

Mistake Continuity: When Rose approaches the stern railing to climb over it casts a very clear moonlight shadow on the deck which is not there in all other shots of this scene.

Mistake Factual error: When Jack, and Rose were trying to escape the rising water they were trapped by a locked gate. Jack and the crowd pulled up a bolted down bench to use as a battering ram. When they pulled the bench loose they showed a close up of the wooden floor shattering. The wood was pressed fiber board which would never be used as ship decking, not to mention, pressed fiber board wasn't invented until decades later.

Mistake Continuity: In the scene where Rose breaks Jack's handcuffs, you can visibly see the stunt person not wearing suspenders as Jack does. This is an inter cut shot between the raising of the ax and the striking of the cuffs. Leonardo's stunt double is noticeable in other shots throughout the film.

Mistake Continuity: When the camera pulls back through the pub window to reveal the card players, if you look carefully in the background you will see a Steam Engine on the dock. Unfortunately the computer generated loco is clearly American as it has two domes, something NEVER seen on British locos. It also is shunting what looks like a carriage - again, this is also American. Carriages were rarely seen at docks, except if a train was connecting to a ship, and this was not common until the 1920s.

Mistake Continuity: In the scene where Rose is about to jump off of the ship, she gets to the end of the ship, and she climbs over the railing. At one point she's holding on to the black part of her dress, and it goes onto the long shot and she isn't, then close up she is again and so on and so on.

Mistake Revealing: As the ship is breaking apart, you can see the wires that pull people into the tear on the deck.

Mistake Continuity: In the dinner scene, just after Jack says, "Never did like it much", Cal starts laughing, but in the next shot he has a straight face and is chewing.

Mistake Factual error: It is fairly well known that James Cameron built a virtual full-size replica of the ship for shooting the exterior scenes. However only the Starboard side of the ship was constructed; when scenes were required that need to show Portside Cameron employed a method known as 'flipping.' For example, in the early scenes of the film we see Titanic at 'Southampton' and passengers boarding the port side. This was achieved by reversing the camera angles. All the signs on passing carriages/vans and White Star logos were printed back-to-front so that when the scene was printed it could be reversed thus showing both sides of the ship! The problem is that in reality the Starboard side of Titanic was NOT a mirror image of the Portside. On one side of the forward boat deck there were entrances to the First Class Gymnasium and forward Grand Staircase, while on the other side there were the windows of the Officers' Quarters and the entrance to the Wireless Room. On Cameron's Titanic you get to see the gym etc. on both sides of the ship.

Mistake Revealing: Just after the Titanic has sunk, and all the people are thrashing around in the water; look towards the top of the screen as the camera pulls back, and you can see the back of the tank it was filmed in. It shows as a clear line against the background.

Mistake Revealing: When Rose and Jack are on the back of the sinking ship, when she looks to her left at the woman next to her, she has almost no makeup on, but when she turns her head back to Jack, she has fresh makeup on.

Mistake Continuity: When Andrews is on the deck and the crew are lowering the boats, he walks down a staircase, (not the grand) you see a vent, used to bring air into the ship. But all of the vents had motors, and you can see this one doesn't; even though it is still there on the wreck.

Mistake Continuity: When the lifeboat is passing and Rose is trying to wake Jack, Rose's hair shifts from shot to shot. In some, there is some hair hanging in front of her face, but from the side that strand disappears. It once again reappears as she shifts before rolling into the water.

Mistake Continuity: As Rose walks down the end of the ship before attempting suicide, a row of benches is visible behind two yellow bolts on the deck. However later in the film, as Titanic is about to go under, Jack tells Rose to "Kick for the surface and keep kicking." Then in the next shot as the ship sinks further, the benches are now in front of the yellow bolts- evidently further than they previously were.

Mistake Continuity: The day after Jack saved Rose's life, they are walking by the upper deck, and you can see the shadows of the smoke that came out of the smokestacks over them and the ship. However, in the next shot, you can see the shadows have totally disappeared, and in the next shot they reappear, but much more faintly. Also it would be technically impossible for the shadows to be over Jack and Rose, due that the sun is coming at the LEFT side of Jack & Rose, so the smoke shadows should have been at the other side of the ship and not over them.

Mistake Continuity: The design of the ship's bow changes significantly while at sea. The white form on top of the bow used for mooring first does, then doesn't have an indentation on top, possibly with a bolt in the center. The point where the curved railing meets the straight side railings either is or is not connected by a top horizontal bar, and the gap between the vertical posts changes size. Another mistake on this site mentions the anchor design change, but also the metal walkway is made of tubular metal bars -or- flat bars that are more numerous and closer together.

Mistake Continuity: The steel deck fittings at the bow of the ship change shape. During the flying sequence, the fitting nearest Rose's right foot changes from a curvy shape to a flat angled shape.

Mistake Continuity: When Hockley and Lovejoy find the drawing of Rose in the safe, Hockley is holding the drawing which has been secured in some kind of brown manila folder. A split second later, Hockley reads the note Rose left while still holding the drawing (and even angrily squishing it slightly with his hand), and it is not in a manila folder.

Mistake Continuity: When Jack rescues Rose from her suicide attempt she slips. In the shot from behind when she is seen dangling precariously her (or the stuntwoman's) hair is longer and redder. Kate's stunt double is noticeable in other shots throughout the film.

Mistake Continuity: When Rose is being lowered into the lifeboat, she looks up at the ropes, and then the camera alternates between her and Jack/Cal four times. The shots are only a few seconds apart. In the first shot, Cal's hands don't extend past the rail and Jack's are clasped resting on the rail. In the second shot, Cal's hands now extend over the rail and Jack's are completely gone. (The third shot doesn't show the rail.) In the fourth shot, Cal's hands again don't extend over the rail and Jack's are holding the rail. Jack and Cal are calm throughout, so would likely not have been moving their hands about.

Mistake Continuity: Early into Rose's suicide attempt scene Jack's hair tucks itself behind his ears while his hands are in his pockets.

Mistake Factual error: During the drawing scene, 'Jack' is using modern square sided, pressed charcoal with numbers embossed in the side of it. In 1912, Jack would have been using vine charcoal which was round and made of 'charcoalized' willow twigs.

Mistake Continuity: When Cal is shooting at Jack and Rose, he leans over the rail and when he shoots the angle at which he's shooting is different from where the water shoots up when the bullet hits the water.

Mistake Continuity: Rose is wearing low heeled laced shoes throughout the entirety of the sinking scenes. Jack helps her jump off a small deck in order to flee for the lifeboats (she's wearing her lifejacket at this point). In this scene, Rose is suddenly wearing flat moccasin-type shoes of similar bone colour. Shoes then revert back to low heeled lace-ups after small jump assisted by Jack takes place.

Mistake Factual error: When DiCaprio is showing off his sketchbook, there is one with a man's hands around a young girl's torso with his hands on hers. This drawing is an exact replica of a photograph by celebrated photographer Sally Mann called "Rodney Plogger at 6:01, 1989." Most likely a tribute of some sort by the director to a fellow artist, but obviously this drawing is out of place in 1912. [From the New York Times Arts and Leisure section, Sunday, November 19, 2000: "The film director James Cameron copied an image from "Immediate Family" and displayed it prominently in "Titanic" without Ms. Mann's  permission. The resulting grievance was settled out of court for a substantial sum just weeks before the Academy Awards."]

Mistake Continuity: In the scene on deck where Jack is teaching Kate to spit, for a split second you can see the breakers rolling in to shore through the ship's railing. Also in this scene, the angle of the shadows changes constantly, indicating the scene was shot several times throughout the afternoon and then spliced together.

Mistake Revealing: When Jack and Rose are being chased by the bodyguard, they run through the ship's boiler room, prior to winding up in the car. Titanic was fueled by coal - the boiler workers were called the "black gang" due to what happened as a result of working there. Yet Rose was wearing a white dress which stayed pristine after going through the area, as did her shoes. She should have picked up at least a LITTLE soot along the way.

Mistake Revealing: When Jack shouts he is king of the world, the shadows at the bow of the ship (where Jack and Fabrizio are standing) are shorter and point to the right. On much of the rest of the ship, they are longer and the angle is very different, pointing closer to the stern.

Mistake Continuity: When the windows are breaking in the grand staircase the first two next to the piano break at the same time. But then a few seconds later the second window is breaking again. Another mistake is that the piano went from the port, to the starboard side suddenly.

Mistake Continuity: When Rose is introducing Jack to the first class passengers, they (Jack, Rose and Molly) start walking towards the dining area. Cal turns around, and says "Sweet Pea", obviously calling for Rose. When it does this, you can see Rose, Jack and Molly facing another direction, still talking to J.J Astor. Next shot, they're facing Cal again, on their way to dinner.

Mistake Continuity: Right after the lights go out there is a structure directly aft of where the ship will break that on both sides of an angled roof have four panels, each with four portholes (a skylight). After the ship has broken apart and the smokestacks are falling off, it is now open.

Mistake Continuity: In the beginning, when the safe is being opened, there's a close-up of the grinding wheel digging into the metal. In the next shot the crewman who does the job is only kneeling down, while the grinding sound is already there.

Mistake Continuity: After running from Cal shooting at them, Rose and Jack run UP through the dining room, away from the flooded staircase. They go up and up, then down 1 flight of stairs. Yet when they look back up those stairs, there's water overflowing down to them at the base. There's also doors holding back a wall of water at the end of the corridor that they enter. Water isn't rising that fast.

Mistake Continuity: When Rose leaves Jack to find help, she runs and wades through water that, at times, is above her waist. However, when she is seen from the back after going up a staircase, the water level on her coat changes a few times and in one shot the coat shows no water line at all but is completely dry.

Mistake Continuity: When Jack is howling at the front of the ship, he puts his arms up. His left arm is behind the rope, but in the next shot of him, his arm is in front of it. In the next shot, it is behind again.

Mistake Continuity: When Rose slips during her suicide attempt and Jack grabs her right hand there's a shot from behind where her left hand is holding on to the second railing bar from the bottom. When the camera angle changes she is holding on to the bottom bar, and in the next shot again to the second. It's unimaginable that she would change her grip that frequently in this situation.

Mistake Continuity: Rose walks through the chest-deep water with the axe, holding it vertically when seen from behind and horizontally when seen from the front.

Mistake Continuity: In the scenes depicting the shift of materials onboard the ship during the wreck, the same china, from the same shelves, fall twice.

Mistake Revealing: This mistake, as far as I know, can only be seen in widescreen. After Rose, Jack, Tommy & Fabrizio have run on deck (after breaking the gate down), the camera looks down the ship toward the bow. If you look at this in slow-mo, you can see city lights in the top-left hand corner of the picture. I know these are city lights because in a book about the movie, it shows a similar picture.

Mistake Factual error: When Rose is arriving in New York half asleep, she looks at the Statue of Liberty, which is the same colour as now (green). But if you visit the Statue of Liberty, you'll find a plate telling you that the original color was brown, and it took over 35 years for it to change colour. The Statue of Liberty was placed there in 1886, so in 1912 it should have still been partly brown. Also, the flame was replaced in 1986 (for its 100th anniversary) with a gold flame. The film shows the Statue holding a torch with a gold flame, not the original.

Mistake Audio problem: When Rose is talking to Thomas Andrews, telling him to tell her the truth about what has happened, listen to the voices in the background. At one point in the scene you can hear someone saying "Yes madam, please put it on immediately", then someone laughs. Right at the end of the scene, the same line can be heard in exactly the same tone of voice, followed by the laugh – it's obviously a loop.

Mistake Continuity: When Jack is teaching Rose how to spit, then gets caught by some ladies, he has a glob of spit on the far upper right side of his chin, then the shot switches and it is now on bottom middle and a little to the left of his chin.

Mistake Continuity: When Rose has just boarded titanic and is looking through her "finger" paintings, she is holding a painting, then slides it down her fingers. When she slides it down, she slides it almost to the end of the painting's frame, but in the following shot she isn't even close to the edge/end of the painting.

Mistake Continuity: When the old Rose arrives on the Keldish, she is unloaded from the helicopter sitting in her wheelchair. The two pilots are helping from above, but afterwards they disappear inside the helicopter from one shot to the next, which is too fast as the rotor noise suggests continuity.

Mistake Revealing: Notice the land in the background of the ship which is supposed to be in the middle of the North Atlantic. It is in one of the whole shots of the boat which has Brock and his team on it. (Forgive me if the name is wrong)

Mistake Continuity: During a scene where the ship is sinking, Jack and Rose are seen in front of a roaring fire. The coal or logs on this fire do not roll off despite the acute angle of the ship. A clock, glass and ornaments on the mantlepiece above the fire do not slide off and if you look closely at the half filled wine glass on the mantle, the wine is completely level despite the room tilting further and further.

Mistake Continuity: When Brock Lovett opens the safe someone is taking a video. There are differences between what we see in the video camera monitor and what is actually happening, like the way Brock's hair falls over his forehead.

Mistake Visible crew/equipment: When Rose says her line "Yes, I would like to see my drawing" when she is in her stateroom with Lizzie, the shadow of what appears to be a boom mike (behind her and to the left) can be seen dropping down prior to her line and then going back up afterward.

Mistake Revealing: As the Titanic is leaving you can see the news guy holding a hand cranked camera. He's cranking it left-handed, but all hand-cranked cameras are right handed. Either a construction mistake or revealing that the shot was flipped - a mistake either way.

Mistake Revealing: As Jack is getting ready to draw, when Rose comes out you can see a hand opening the door for her.

Mistake Factual error: Rose and Jack retreat aft of the 3rd funnel while D deck (1st class dining salon between funnel 2 & 3) is being flooded. They go down to E deck, which floods then they come back up to D to the locked gate, then escape to C deck just as D floods to the top. The 1st class dining salon extended across the entire width of the ship, so D deck was flooded to ceiling aft of 3rd funnel at the time they escaped below decks. In reality, if the ship were flooded that high, only the stern would be sticking above water. The 'split' did not even show the water that high and far back in the ship.

Mistake Deliberate "mistake": When the ship is leaving Southhampton, there is an underwater shot of all three propellers starting to rotate together. This is incorrect as the middle turbine engine ran of the waste low pressure steam from the outer wing reciprocating engines, thus the outer engines would have to be running for some time before steam was fed to the turbine. The turbine was only used when getting the ship up to full speed, not maneuvering in ports. Also the three props started revolving at 60-70 revolutions per minute, this was a speed that would have given the ship 19 - 21 knots and the ship would have been wrecked in The Solent/Southampton waters if she was lucky with no loss of life.

Mistake Audio problem: When the Captain is watching the overturned boat trying to be launched, there is a crew member working on the davit, causing it to make a rapid clicking noise. But soon after the noise stops, the crewmember is still turning.

Mistake Continuity: When Rose is running to get to the stern to throw herself off she starts by running on the first class A-Deck promenade. Then when the whole stern of the Titanic is shown sailing, Rose runs out from the 2nd class B-Deck promenade, a deck down. The only way that these two promenades were connected was by two ladders, which Rose passes when she keeps running. It makes no sense to go down the ladders, go forward, turn around and head back to the aft part of the ship.

Mistake Revealing: Right as the Titanic hits the iceberg it does an underwater shot of half the ship. If you look closely, it really is only that half of the ship. The 3/4 size model they built was only half a ship, and they clearly didn't frame the shot right.

Mistake Continuity: At the very beginning of the lunch scene, Rose's hair is really red. But in other parts of the film, it's a deep brownish red. The colour changes in different scenes.

Mistake Continuity: When Jack is waiting for Rose at the staircase (before dinner) he is mimicking the hand gestures of an older gentleman. As Cal and Ruth walk down the stairs, we see a shot of Jack from behind, and his arms are at his sides. In the next shot when Cal goes to greet the Countess, Jacks posture is back to the mimicking of the older gentleman.

Mistake Continuity: In the scene where Jack and Rose are on the third class level partying with the other people in third class. When Jack hands Rose a glass of beer, how she holds the glass differs between shots.

Mistake Continuity: After Rose has been persuaded to step into the lifeboat the camera is on Cal and Jack for quite some time when Cal reveals to Jack that there is no arrangement in his benefit. During all this time the lifeboat is being lowered, but when the camera cuts back to Rose she can still make eye contact with Jack almost at level.

Mistake Continuity: When Rose and Jack run outside after making love in the car, you will notice a shot of the men in the lookout tower where you can see their breath due to the extremely cold night. But when the shot goes to Jack and Rose, you will notice that you cannot see their breath but also Rose does not seem to be affected by the cold even though she is wearing a thin dress with no sleeves.

Mistake Continuity: When the funnel tips over it breaks at the bottom. The camera cuts to Cal, then back to the funnel, and it breaks again.

Mistake Visible crew/equipment: When the captain goes to the wheelhouse, which is flooding, you can see the shadow of a camera at the bottom left corner.

Mistake Revealing: When Rose and Jack first enter the boiler room, they run towards the right. If you look closely you can see the reflection of the worker in the back to the left in the mirror they use to make the bolier room look longer. In the next scene they are running in the opposite direction, because the set is so small due to the mirror, and once again you can see the same reflections caused by the mirror.

Mistake Continuity: The length of Rose's fingernails changes noticeably throughout the film. In some scenes, her nails are very short (during the "flying" scene), and in other scenes her nails are a lot longer (when she takes the comb out of her hair right before Jack sketches her).

Mistake Continuity: When Rose, Cal and the others sit around a table talking and drinking, and Mr Ismay says something. His hands are locked together by his fingers, but in the following wide shot his left hand is down by his knee and his right is holding a fork with food on it. Also, Rose puts the cigarette holder to her mouth and takes her left hand away from it but in the following shot her left hand is still on it.

Mistake Continuity: Right after the 1st smokestack has fallen and crushed Fabrizio, it is seen from above creating huge sprays of water. The problem is that the smokestack looks nothing like the Titanic's. You can see the top and there is no black whatsoever. And to make it stranger, there is a cable attached to it and then one below it, both on the peach/orange color, and not the black.

Mistake Continuity: When Captain Smith says to Mr. Murdoch "let's stretch her legs" the light comes from the port side. When Murdoch enters the bridge the light comes from starboard.

Mistake Audio problem: After Jack asks Rose "do you love the guy or not?" the camera shows him from behind, and he is moving his jaw as if he is asking the question again.

Mistake Revealing: When Jack opens the gate after he retrieved the key from under the water we see that the water level in the background is lower, but the flow is towards the camera. It looks as if the shot has been reversed.

Mistake Revealing: In the scene where Rose is looking at Jack on the bow of the ship, you can see a tiny bit of desert behind him.

Mistake Continuity: As Rose shows the men she can rise up on her toes, from the front she has a cigarette in the first three fingers of her right hand. In the next shot her right hand is seen under her left arm and she has no cigarette. When she falls back into Jack's arms the cigarette is back in her right hand.

Mistake Revealing: The day after Jack saves Rose, they are walking along the promenade. A small hill with a building on it is visible over Jack's shoulder and above the ship.

Mistake Factual error: The lifejackets in the movie have the wrong number of cork pieces. In real life each side had six pieces but in the movie there are twelve.

Mistake Continuity: When the submarines are down at the wreck they are shown looking at the enclosed promenades at the bow of the ship. When the camera backs up in one scene to reveal more of the ship there is a pole that is broken. Then in the next shot you see the same area, with the same pole intact. Apparently because both subs are seen during the broken pole, that was not the real Titanic, while the unbroken was.

Mistake Revealing: In the suicide attempt scene, after Rose climbs over the railing, you'll notice banding of the night sky a couple of times - that appears on both VCR and DVD.

Mistake Continuity: When Rose Cal and Rose's mother are standing on deck, Rose says "oh mother, shut up ", before the face shot of her mother you can see she is already looking at Rose in the previous shot, then she whips her head around again to look at Rose.

Mistake Continuity: When the two guys in the watchtower on the front of Titanic spot the iceberg, the shot cuts to the helmsman. Behind him the clock says 11:40pm, but when we next see the clock 5 to 10 minutes later its still on 11:40pm even though almost 10 minutes has passed.

Mistake Continuity: When the stern is vertically up in the air a lot of people are holding on to the railing. We see them falling down one by one. When the camera changes to a wide angle it looks as if all are gone except Rose and Jack who are lying on top, but when the camera cuts closer there are again four people hanging.

Mistake Continuity: At the first time code (when Jack is preparing to draw Rose, when he says "Try to stay still") on Jack's sketchbook we can see some sort of bookmark or flap. At time code 2 (right before he starts drawing, when he exhales) that little flap thing is missing.

Mistake Continuity: When Cal confronts Rose and Jack at the last lifeboat, once in a while when the camera is only on Cal, it looks like it is raining lightly, however, it is dry in all other shots facing others.

Mistake Continuity: When Jack tries to talk Rose out of drowning herself, the camera cuts back and forth between their faces. There's a strong wind blowing through Rose's hair where Jack's hair is totally still in some shots.

Mistake Continuity: When the ship begins to tear apart and the inside is seen collapsing, the room shown is a combination of the lounge's windows (already submerged as shown by the floating girl) and the smoking room's ceiling. Also according to where the ship breaks in the movie these rooms are not part of the tear.

Mistake Continuity: When Rose is looking through Jack's sketchbook when they are sitting on deck near the beginning of the movie, Rose's hair changes form shot to shot. From one angle it is very messy, with a lot of wind blowing it around. However, from the other angle her hair is perfectly styled into ringlets around the front, with little or no wind blowing at it.

Mistake Deliberate "mistake": When the Titanic hits the iceberg, it shows a shot from inside the cargo hold, later it shows another one, it's really just the same shot looped. Note a barrel right behind the large white pole and a small stick in front of it.

Mistake Visible crew/equipment: When Jack and Rose are being chased though the dining room by Cal with a gun, look carefully when they first go through the door to the next corridor. There is visible one of those powerful studio lights. It vanishes in the next shot of the door.

Mistake Continuity: Close to the end of the film when lots of people are trying to free the lifeboats from the ropes, you can see Cal, climb up a black wire and stand on the side of a half turned lifeboat, but if you watch closely in the following shot, you can see that Cal is still climbing up the black wire.

Mistake Continuity: At the beginning when Jack and Fabrizio go to the front of the ship, you can see the anchor section at the front, yet when Jack is waiting for Rose, the camera pans up, and its a completely different design, than from the first look at the beginning.

Mistake Continuity: Close to the beginning of the film when Rose is looking through Jack's drawings, a man walks by with a long black coat down to his ankles, in the following shot you see the same man walk past only this time the coat is just below the waist and a different colour from the previous shot.

Mistake Revealing: In the engine room as the ship is sinking, the smoke and steam coming from the machinery rises at the same angle as the ship, about 45 degrees. So, the shot was filmed level, then tilted afterwards.

Mistake Continuity: On the day after Rose got the diamond she and Jack talk a walk on the deck. From the light on the deck you can tell that the sun is still fairly high up. When the camera angle changes and we see them from behind the deck is in the dark, and the sun is falling in almost horizontal. When they sit down to look at Jack's drawings the sun is higher again.

Mistake Visible crew/equipment: When Jack and Rose are going back to the sitting room to tell Cal and Ruth about the bad news, you can see a crew member reflected on the wall over by the door.

Mistake Continuity: In the scene where Jack is drawing Rose he turns his sketchbook a few times and the way that he turns the book does not match up to the direction that it winds up when he's actually drawing.

Mistake Factual error: The both times the fireplace in the first class lounge is seen there is nothing on the mantle piece. But in photos of the actual lounge there is a statue on the mantle called "Artemis of Versailles" which was a small copy of the original in the Louvre, Paris. The statue was even photographed on the ocean floor when the Titanic was found, but there is no statue in James Cameron's movie.

Mistake Continuity: When Jack meets Rose for dinner and Cal says "You almost look a gentleman," take a look at Rose's facial expression beforehand. The shot changes from side view to front view several times and her expression changes from smiling to normal at each change of shot in under 15 seconds.

Mistake Continuity: When Jack is playing poker in the beginning of the movie with the Swedish guys and Fabrizio we can see a short shot of his cards. He then takes another card and wins by having a full house. However, there was no way to get a full house with the cards he had by just drawing one more card.

Mistake Factual error: When Cal overturns Rose's table, there is a serving cart with modern-day casters.

Mistake Factual error: The car which brings Rose and Cal to the docks at Southampton has an RB registration plate. But RB wasn't introduced as a car registration index mark until 1929.

Mistake Continuity: When Ruth boards the ship she walks on the plank followed by her maid. Cal and Rose are not seen in the scene. In the next scene Ruth is entering the ship followed by Cal and Rose and then the maid is in view again.

Mistake Continuity: When Jack and Rose are on the way to the end of the ship to try and stay on as long as possible, you can see them jump down from a railing, but if you watch when Rose jumps down, a woman also jumps down next to her and falls over, yet in the following shot she has vanished, then in the background she can be seen jumping down again.

Mistake Revealing: In this scene, at the end of the film when Jack and Rose are hanging onto the railing, you can see the ship split in half, but when it drops, if you watch closely on the right side of the screen, you can see that the entire ship is still intact, the lifeboat cranes are visible all the way down the top of the ship.

Mistake Continuity: When Jack and Rose are dancing on the 3rd class level, Rose takes her shoes off and looks down at her feet, in the following shot she is looking at Jack, and the shot after she looks at Jack again.

Mistake Deliberate "mistake": Even though the movie uses the correct number of rockets, the timing is awful. The last rocket was fired at 1:40 AM at the latest. In the movie, the last rocket is fired when the last boat to be lowered on the davits leaves (the one Rose gets, and jumps off of). This would make it 2:05 in James Cameron's Titanic time. It was probably changed to add more drama to that heart-throbbing scene...

Mistake Continuity: In the scene where Jack is handcuffed water starts running into the room the desk. At that moment the desk, which had been out of reach before, is moved closer to Jack and standing diagonally, so that Jack can climb on it. This happens before things get moved around by water or gravity.

Mistake Continuity: When Jack is sneaking over the rail to the first class deck, a boy is preparing to spin his toy top. As Jack leaps the rail and begins walking, the boy throws the top and you see it start to spin. The camera angle then changes to show Jack walking, toward the coat he is about to 'borrow', and in the background you can see the boy again drawing back to toss his toy top.  Since you have to meticulously wind the string around the top of the toy, it would be impossible for him to be making a separate toss. It's obviously the same toss filmed from two separate angles.

Mistake Continuity: When Tommy Ryan, one of Jacks ship friends, is trying to get to the top deck, but is stopped by metal guard rails, at the beginning of the scene he has his right hand on the rail, then in the next shot he has his left hand on the rail.

Mistake Factual error: Those USA $20 bills that Caledon Hockley stuffs into the pocket of First Officer Murdoch are Federal Reserve Notes, which were first issued in 1914.

Mistake Deliberate "mistake": When Jack and Rose are adrift in the ocean, the stars behind them are not the right ones for that time and date. In fact, it's not any sky ever seen on Earth. The right half of the sky is a mirror image of the left half. The fimmakers deliberately positioned the stars to form the shape of the pendant 'Heart of the Ocean.'

Mistake Revealing: (DVD timings) The band decide to go their separate ways, just before the ship sinks. As they are seen departing, the lead violinist strikes up a solo - I think it'd be 'Nearer My God to Thee' or so the legend goes. A fraction of a second before he does, watch the second violinist - he disappears off to the right of the shot at first, then reappears near the side of the ship - he is obviously awaiting his cue as he turns round too early, i.e. before the lead strikes the first note, then turns away again.

Mistake Continuity: In the scene where Rose attempts suicide she is holding on the railing while standing on the outside. In some shots the end of her black lacy robe is under her left hand, in some it isn't.

Mistake Continuity: During the first meal on the Titanic (the one where Cal plucks Rose's cigarette from the holder) the stone on Rose's necklace changes between almost disappearing in her dress and about two inches above.

Mistake Factual error: Jack (Leonardo DiCaprio) was handcuffed with old English Hiatt's Darby Handcuffs (type 104). This is historically correct. But the key for these handcuffs identifies them as modern reproductions, because it had a flat top and was "checkered". The old keys had an oval and smooth (only marked with "Hiatt" and a number) top. The handcuffs used in the film were not from 1912.

Mistake Continuity: During the break-up of the ship, David Warner's character, Lovejoy, is right where the gash starts. Right after we see the interior break-up shot, we see the hull breaking, and on the top, where Lovejoy should be, he is nowhere to be seen.

Mistake Continuity: In the scene close to the end, we see crewmen of the ship pulling down a lifeboat, if you watch closely the plank that passengers sit on breaks off when falling onto the deck, but in the following scene it has repaired itself and is back on the lifeboat.

Mistake Audio problem: When the leader of the orchestra suggest to play "Orpheus", the music starts later than the musicians actually begin playing their instruments.

Mistake Continuity: When the band goes out on deck to play as the ship is sinking all they have on is their uniforms. They are seen this way a few times, in the last shot of the band they all have on overcoats.

Mistake Continuity: When Jack and Rose are on the way up to the end of the ship, they go past a priest with lots of people praying, some are holding his hands, yet in the following shot, the people are not holding his hands, and are a bit further away from him than in the previous shot.

Mistake Continuity: When Jack is dining in first class with Cal Rose and the others, when the men get up to leave, and in one shot you see Cal walk past Jack, and in the following shot he is walking past again.

Mistake Continuity: When Rose and Jack beg a steward to open the gate for them while the water is rising, the steward drops the keys and runs away. There are two shots of the keys on the chain lying in the water arranged in totally different ways (the difference is not caused by the water flow as the keys are not moving in either shot).

Mistake Continuity: When Tommy begs the steward to open the gate he is reaching with his right arm through the gate, holding on to a bar. When the camera angle changes the arm is hanging down.

Mistake Continuity: When Cal gives Rose the diamond her front hair changes from shot to shot, most drastically when she says "good gracious."

Mistake Factual error: When Jack and his friend are standing on the bow, looking at the dolphins swimming ahead of the ship, the dolphins are clearly Pacific white-sides, not any Atlantic species.

Mistake Visible crew/equipment: When Jack and Rose are running from the raging water that is gushing down the hall after them you can see the faces of the stunt doubles through the computer generated ones of Leonardo and Kate.

Mistake Continuity: In the scene you see Rose going down stairs, before she goes into the water she rests an axe on the door frame which turns to the side, yet in the following shot it's not turned to its side.

Mistake Continuity: Professional Radio Operators hold the key used for Morse code between their thumb and two fingers - they don't tap it, as was shown. Tapping would produce a harsh voice in Morse code.

Mistake Continuity: When the diamond is found in Jack's pocket the way Rose's hair is messed up is different in every single shot.

Mistake Continuity: When Jack gets invited for dinner after Rose's rescue his hair changes between hanging down and tucked behind his ear alternatingly. There is another change after he puts Lovejoy's cigarette behind his ear. Similar alternating changes happen while he talks to Rose in the gym.

Mistake Factual error: The radio system in use at that time was based on spark transmission and we should never have heard a nice clean transmission of Morse code SOS or CQD beeps.

Mistake Continuity: When the captain looks at the bridge sinking, the water level is by the middle of the helm wheel. In the next shot, from the other entrance, the level is lower than that, and in the next it's again by the middle of the wheel, which is also turned to a different position.

Mistake Factual error: All deep sea submersibles that travel to depths of two or three miles fall to the ocean floor with no power on. At the start of the film, you see MIR1 and MIR2 pan past the camera with all their lights on. The lights should be off to conserve electrical power. The journey to the sea bed takes two and a half hours.

Mistake Continuity: When Jack is showing Rose how to spit and is interrupted by the arrival of her mother, the glob of spit on his face moves from the side to the middle.

Mistake Revealing: Throughout the whole movie, you can see the outline of hills in the background, even though the Titanic sank in the middle of the Atlantic.

Mistake Audio problem: During the scene where Jack and Rose are walking around the ship and talking and Rose is telling him about her upcoming fears about the wedding, a frontal camera shot on Jack shows him asking her "It's a simple question, do you love the guy or not?". Jack finishes his sentence here, but about a second later, a rear camera shot of Jack (now also facing Rose) shows that his jawline and lips are moving and finishing the words "or not".

Mistake Revealing: If you look at the deck planks to the right of Rose and Jack you can see that there is something that runs perpendicular to the rest of the planks. This wasn't on the real Titanic. This is where the set was "cut" so that the front half could be sunk into the tank later on in the film.

Mistake Revealing: When the ship hits the iceberg and the plates of the hull start to buckle and break apart, it shows a scene on the inside of the ship showing the walls buckling in, along those walls you can see vertical pipes that appear to made of PVC, similar to the pipes used for sewage drains in modern building structure. I don't think PVC was around in 1912, the pipes would have been made of cast iron or lead and they would not have been white.

Mistake Continuity: When Jack and Rose have first met and are talking and walking on the promenade of the ship, in a wide shot of them, to the left of the screen stands a man with a hat in his hand talking to a lady. In the following shot his hat is on his head.

Mistake Continuity: When cuffed Jack is screaming for help, you can see the water level in the porthole in the background although the room in which he is cuffed, has already been shown to be completely under water.

Mistake Factual error: When Titanic is leaving Southampton she accelerates in few seconds to a incredible fast speed. That was impossible then, when large steamers were helped off by tiny tugboats. In the long shot in fact, you can see the tugboats - no way she could accelerate that fast if being towed.

Mistake Factual error: Early in the film Jack smokes hand-rolled cigarettes. When he is smoking on the stern deck before Rose is thinking about jumping, he is smoking a mass-produced filter cigarette. Filters in cigarettes didn't exist in 1912.

Mistake Continuity: When the ships sinks and the back is rising, you see no people swim under the ship. When the ship breaks and falls down, the sea is crowded with people, who get crushed under the ship.

Mistake Continuity: When it goes from young Rose blowing a whistle to the rescuers to elderly Rose's eyes, you see her eyelashes are short and light coloured. Then at the end when we pass sleeping Rose we see her eyelashes are long.

Mistake Continuity: At the very beginning of the film when Brock is talking with the big guy, they walk up stairs turn to the right, and right in front of them is a large piece of the ship with a no smoking sign on it, yet in the following shot, the large piece has turned into a very small piece, not even enough room for the sticker.

Mistake Factual error: Cal and Rose are supposedly in cabins B52-54-56, but in reality this was the suite occupied by Chairman Bruce Ismay.

Mistake Continuity: When the ship is vertical after it has split in half, look at Rose's hair. She is looking down toward the water and the hair should be hanging down towards the water too, but it remains horizontal.

Mistake Revealing: When Tommy and Fabrizio meet Jack and Rose at the bottom of the staircase and try to look for a way out, you can see a boy in the bottom left corner staring at the camera and smiling.

Mistake Continuity: In the film, Titanic has a yellow stripe down from the bow to the stern, however the yellow stripe disappears from the film in some scenes, and appears in others. The main one is the sinking.

Mistake Revealing: Just after the officer kills himself, there is a scene where many people are pulling a lifeboat, it falls and a man falls over the boat, almost "bouncing" - it is obvious this boat wasn't made of wood.

Mistake Continuity: At the beginning of the film when Cal sees Rose putting her paintings up, if you watch closely in the background, in one shot Cal walks into the room with his glass at his side, in the following shot it is at stomach level.

Mistake Continuity: When Jack is about to start drawing Rose, the shot cuts back and forth from a close-up to a wider shot. In the wide shots Jack is holding his charcoal pencil, in the close-ups he is not holding it.

Mistake Continuity: When Rose leaves Jack's company to retrieve help, and goes to return with the axe, she stops at the stairway with the rising water and wedges the axe on the bars. The camera cuts to behind Rose to show her removing her outerwear, and the axe is still being held up by the bars but it's nice and straight, before and after this camera shot, the axe is propped in the bars crooked at an angle.
