Superman II
Superman II mistake picture

Other mistake: When Lois and Clark leave the Fortress, the car is driving in the wrong lane. This is due to the fact that the shot belongs to a reused scene from the first movie, where an empty car was remotely driven by Lex, who changed lanes all the time.

Factual error: When the Krypton criminals are on the moon, they speak both to each other and the astronauts, something that's impossible to do in space where there's no sound.

Continuity mistake: After the Metropolis fight, the villains return to Perry's office. In the close-up, the whole background changes: the buildings, the debris around, and even a column and a broken blind appear behind Non.

Sacha

Revealing mistake: All of the movements of both people and objects on the moon are played in slower speed to simulate the Moon's gravity, except for the last scene where Zod grabs the oxygen tube and it falls on the ground at normal speed.

Sacha

Continuity mistake: Before Non breaks the table in two, the phones are lying next to the edge. When he raises his fist, the phones are further away.

Sacha

Audio problem: In the prison, Lex tells an inmate he wants his Liberace record, to which he replies, "It has a scratch on it," but his lips don't match the audio. In the Donner version, it's revealed that the original audio was "Tonight?"

Sacha

Continuity mistake: At the Fortress, when Lois drinks champagne, she holds the glass at chest level. A shot later, her arm is lowered.

Revealing mistake: When Non flies through the White House ceiling, right before he lands on his feet, the shot cuts to Zod landing safely and one can see that the previous stuntman missed the landing and fell on his back, his legs now pointing upwards. According to the shooting script and the additional Donner scenes, the fall was not scripted and not plot-wise.

Revealing mistake: When Superman returns the flag, the wide shots show he has really long arms and a brown blob where the head should be, revealing the actor has been replaced with a dummy.

Sacha

Continuity mistake: Right before Perry White throws a bronze globe at Non, Lois' head is tilted sideways and she smiles calmly. An instant cut later, her head is straight and she stares in awe. After the globe strikes Non's head, we're back to the previous shot where her head is tilted.

Sacha

Plot hole: When Superman becomes human for Lois, the molecule chamber nearly rips him apart, he suffers. At the end of the movie, when he tricks out of the evil 3 and turn them into humans with the same radiation, they are just looking around, wondering about the strange lights, but don't suffer at all.

Suggested correction: Well it's established that Superman has altered the machine. Maybe he also reprogrammed it to not leave signs of their powers being removed.

MrMovieBuff

Continuity mistake: Under the elevator when Lois says "Nobel prize" her fingers are completely black, covered in grease. When she starts to say "lil' o" they're just slightly dirty. When Superman saves her they're spotless.

Sacha

Factual error: When the police car's light is thrown at the boy and it blows up, it shouldn't have happened. The most that would've happened was that the kid would've been knocked off his bike when hit with the light. There is no explosive device in the light, so it shouldn't have exploded in the least like it did.

Plot hole: Lois Lane and other people see Clark Kent unhurt when a taxi hits him and suffers damage, but don't draw the obvious conclusion that there's something extraordinary about him.

Suggested correction: I always took this as an intentional jab at how the people of Metropolis, and Lois in particular, were so oblivious to the fact that Clark was obviously Superman. Still a plot hole, just an intentional one.

Suggested correction: Maybe the cab-driver thinks that Clark is extraordinary, but he is shocked in the first moment, worrying about his damaged car. Later than he realises that this guy is maybe Superman, but cannot find him anymore. Just a guy of millions walking around the big apple.

Goekhan

This would be a valid correction if the mistake said only the cab driver saw it. The mistake is claiming Lois Lane saw it. She knows both Clark and Superman and is a seasoned reporter.

Suggested correction: Much too vague. What scenes are you referring to. And how can you tell, other than knowing that Gene Hackman isn't really bald?

Continuity mistake: When Zod is interviewed by the news reporter the people behind him differ or change positions between shots.

Sacha

Continuity mistake: When Lois comes out of the river she turns to the left to help Clark. Shot changes and she has turned 180ยบ around.

Revealing mistake: When Superman returns the flag to the White House, not only has the shot been reused, but the trees have been badly cut around to change the previous grey sky for a bright, blue and sunny one.

Sacha

Revealing mistake: When Non burns the side of the cargo bed of the truck, a rectangular spot around the planks is coloured in a lighter shade, giving away where the special FX were placed.

Sacha

Revealing mistake: When the villains enter the oval office, the whole White House behind is a cheap set with painted columns, furniture, fixtures and switches (even the bullet holes are painted!). (01:16:29)

Sacha

Clark Kent: I have to go back.
Lois Lane: You can't go back, there's no way now.
Clark Kent: I have to. I've gotta try dammit, I've got to try something. Anything.
Lois Lane: It's not your fault. You didn't know this was going to happen.
Clark Kent: They knew. I heard 'em. I just didn't listen.

Trivia: Some of Gene Hackman's scenes were actually filmed with a body double and a voice impersonator. That's because he had already completed all his scenes under Donner's direction and was not obligated to return for Lester's reshoots, either due to unavailability (according to Ilya Salkind) or unwillingness (out of loyalty to Donner). The voice impersonator was also used on a lot of Donner footage for audio consistency.

Question: How did Superman get his powers back? I don't understand what that green crystal did.

Answer: In the theatrical cut, nobody really knows why the green crystal restored his powers. However if you watch the Richard Donner cut, it is explained that the green crystal is a communication device that helps Superman talks to the residual essence/spirit/ghost of his father Jor-El. Before he died, Jor-El gave the crystal to his son. Jor-El anticipated that Kal-El might give up his powers, and he also anticipated that Zod might eventually escape the Phantom Zone, so Jor-El lets his son absorb the leftover energy of his spirit, thus restoring all his Kryptonian powers.
