When the 44' killer has been found out, it was mainly due to a witness seeing him drive off with a parking ticket on his windscreen. Earlier in the film (in the scene where he is contemplating killing the police officer) he removed the ticket in full view of the camera and put it inside his car. [The woman that runs away with the dog passes the car and looks behind herself at the killer. She's in the house already as he goes back toward the car and pulls the ticket off. It is not said in the film that he drove off with the ticket still on the windscreen, just that there had been one seen on it.]
