Deliberate "mistake": Jack looks into the lobby of The Overlook as he hears Dick Halloran yelling, "Hello". It's interesting to see that the overhead chandelier above the miniature hedge maze has been removed in this scene so it wouldn't block the view of the lobby. The chandelier was there earlier in the movie as Jack walked to his interview and as Wendy brought Jack his breakfast. It returns to its place in the next shot.

Deliberate "mistake": As Wendy stands around in the apartment waiting for Jack to come back from room 237 we see that the apartment is a lovely peach color. Earlier in the movie as he sits on the bed when Danny comes in looking for his fire engine the room was a different color, somewhere in the lavender range.

Continuity: Danny runs around The Overlook ending up in the kitchen as he hides from Jack, and the artificial snow on his sweater never melts.

Continuity: After Jack breaks into their apartment and starts heading for the bathroom Wendy throws the knife into the sink and it lands on the bottom with the handle to the right. Later when she reaches for it again the handle is in the opposite direction and it's leaning on the edge of the sink.

Continuity: Lots of stuff near the bathroom sink (bar of soap, towel, razor) moves from the time Wendy throws the knife into it to when she picks it back up. She's doesn't go near any of this stuff and the best are the toothbrushes which are rearranged in their rack, with the blue one disappearing.

Continuity: Wendy takes one of Danny's baseball bats and walks into the back of The Colorado Lounge and the bearskin rug in front of the fireplace has disappeared.

Continuity: As they run into the bathroom to hide from Jack, Wendy locks the door behind them and it's clear to see that there's no coat hook on the back of the door. Two shots later as she throws the knife into the sink we see a perfect reflection in the mirror of a coat hook on the back of the door.

Continuity: As Danny picks up Wendy's lipstick there's a red pearl necklace draped over the jewelry chest in the center of her bureau. No one goes near it but when we see this spot again as Wendy sees "Redrum" reflecting in the mirror, it's gone.

Continuity: As Jack starts to break down the front door of their apartment, Wendy runs Danny into the bathroom and we see the bookcase to the right of the bathroom door again. We saw the bookcase before Danny wrote "Redrum" on the bathroom door and even though no one went near it the books in the middle shelf have been rearranged.

Continuity: As Danny picks up Wendy's lipstick from the mirrored bureau we see a lamp to the left of the mirror. No one goes near this spot but later we see it again as Wendy is woken up and looks into the mirror, and we see the lamp along with the makeup case in front of it have been moved forward.

Continuity: As Wendy drags Jack threw the storeroom door there's a corn flakes box with black lettering to the right of the door. It in the next shot it becomes a red Ritz box.

Continuity: The way Wendy's bangs are combed changes as Jack chases her around the Colorado Lounge. When she's on the left side of the room only a few strands of hair are combed on her forehead but then when she moves to the other side of the room and the windows are in the back, her bangs are combed forward.

Continuity: Before Dick Hallorann calls Durkin's garage, Larry is outside with a customer and as he walks in there's a big pile of snow on the left and right side of the door. In the next shot from inside the garage the pile of snow is not there.

Continuity: In the Colorado Lounge Wendy walks up to the typewriter to read Jack's novel and she never puts the baseball bat down. In the next shot both of her hands are free.

Continuity: Dick Hallorann calls Durkin's garage and as Larry walks in we can see out of all three of the garage's windows. The Snowcat is parked outside on the right of the building yet from the inside, looking out the third window, it's not there.

Continuity: The stock footage of the jet that we see landing at Stapleton Airport is not the same airplane we saw Dick Hallorann flying in a few shots before. It's implied that this is his flight but the first Continental jet has a gold tailfin and the one landing does not.

Continuity: At the party Delbert Grady spills the Advocaat on the back of Jack's right paint leg but by the time they walk into the bathroom it's already dry without a trace of the spill.

Continuity: The two shower nozzles above the tub in the bathroom of room 237 disappear then reappear later in the scene with the woman.

Continuity: As Jack sits behind his desk watching Wendy holding Danny, his hand is touching his face and covered by his hair. In the next shot we see a close-up of his face and only his index finger is touching his hair.

Audio problem: When the two little girls say, "Come and play with us, Danny, for ever…." if you look closely at their mouths they're saying a lot more that has been edited out.
