The Shining (1980) - 299 mistakes
Directed by Stanley Kubrick, starring Barry Nelson, Danny Lloyd, Jack Nicholson, Scatman Crothers, Shelley Duvall (add more)
Continuity: As she looks for Danny, Wendy runs into an older bloodied gentleman in the back of the lobby who says to her, "Great party isn't it?" We see this same spot after Jack knocks a bunch of pots onto the pantry floor just before The Gold Room party scene, and the three pictures hanging there have now disappeared.
Continuity: Danny picks up Wendy's lipstick and writes the word "Redrum" on the bathroom door. We've seen this door several times in the movie and this is a different one. The doorpost on the right is chipped from top to bottom but more importantly we see three distinct cracks between the upper and lower indentations by the door knob and the space in the middle of the door between the right and left indentations (it's also a different color).
Continuity: Wendy looks at Dick Hallorann's body lying on the floor and we can make out some of the pictures on the wall behind the entrance to The Gold Room and they're not the same ones that we see there at the end of the movie as the camera zooms in for the final shot. Dick Halloran walks past this spot as he enters the hotel and they're different here also.
Continuity: Jack sits on the side of the bed as Danny comes into the apartment to get his fire engine and a chair with a blue cushion on it is on the right of the screen in front of the radiator. This chair is in some shots and not in others and when Jack walks into the apartment with the axe there's a different chair in that spot.
Continuity: Right after the shot of Danny and Wendy out running in the snowstorm we see a wide shot of Jack typing. The camera's prospective is from the left of the steps where Wendy hits him with the baseball bat and we can see behind him as the types. If you look to his left the billiard table, and the carpet it's on, that we saw earlier in the film when Danny took his trike ride is on the opposite side of the room.
Continuity: After Wendy walks in and finds the lobby covered in cobwebs and filled with skeletons she continues to look for Danny and ends up in front of the two red elevators. In the next shot blood streams out of them and if you look closely the picture on the left wall is higher the second time we see it.
Continuity: Lloyd asks Jack what he wants from the bar and he replies, "The hair of the dog that bit me" as two women walk by behind him. In the next shot the reflections of these two women do not appear in the mirror, and this isn't because they're ghosts as the reflections of other actors at the party do appear in the mirror as they walk by.
Deliberate "mistake": Jack looks into the lobby of The Overlook as he hears Dick Halloran yelling, "Hello". It's interesting to see that the overhead chandelier above the miniature hedge maze has been removed in this scene so it wouldn't block the view of the lobby. The chandelier was there earlier in the movie as Jack walked to his interview and as Wendy brought Jack his breakfast. It returns to its place in the next shot.
