John Wick

Question: In the hotel fight scene with Ms. Perkins, she takes what I think is the bottom end of her jacket and bites down on it. Any idea why? Just curious.

Answer: She is setting up the choke move she uses on Wick seconds later. She places the strap to her jacket in her mouth so she can reach it when she spins around. She then wraps it around Wick's neck and tries to strangle him with the strap.

Question: In response to the answer for the Cardinal Rule question, wouldn't the cancellation of the contract by Viggo due to John's threat void that agreement (Marcus' acceptance of the contract)?

Answer: No. Regardless of any cancellation that Viggo made after-the-fact, the "Cardinal Rule" still applies to Marcus. He accepted the contract, he was contractually-obligated to kill John Wick, and he failed to kill John Wick. Marcus broke his word, essentially, which was an inexcusable violation.

Question: Why accept Viggo's contract if he was just going to help John anyway?

Answer: Marcus may have had a change of heart after the fact; but it's more likely that, knowing John Wick's fearsome capabilities, Marcus believed John Wick was going to slaughter every one of the Russians (including Viggo), thereby erasing every reason for the contract. Marcus didn't want to be on the wrong side of John Wick's wrath if John actually did annihilate everyone. So, Marcus may have accepted the contract to lull Viggo into a false sense of security, thereby giving John Wick a further surprise advantage.

Charles Austin Miller

Answer: I feel it's because Marcus honestly believed he could double-cross Viggo with no consequences. And he almost did if not for Perkins. Basically he took the contract to subtlety help John, while also attempting to stack some money on the side.

Question: What exactly is the "Cardinal Rule" that Marcus broke that got him killed by Viggo?

Answer: Viggo put out a contract on John Wick (meaning Viggo offered a large bounty for somebody to kill John Wick). Marcus accepted the contract. The "Cardinal Rule" was that, if you accept the contract, you must kill your target. No ifs, ands, or buts. Marcus broke that Cardinal Rule because he did not kill John Wick when he had the chance.

Question: Who owned the Continental Hotel? Was is Winston or did he just run it for the owner?

Gary Stewart

Chosen answer: It was Winston. The guy John met up with in the basement of the hotel who gave John all the information he needed when he was trying to kill Iosef and Viggo.

Answer: My internet searching yielded the most common answer of 76 killings by Keanu Reeves' eponymous character, in addition to 8 killings by others, and the death of one dog. One writer suggested John Wick killed 78, but that was an outlier.

Question: John got out because Viggo gave him an "impossible task." I'm sure I'm one of many John Wick fans who would love to see a prequel showing how John got out and what the task was. However, would it still be possible to film a prequel even with Nyqvist's passing?

Answer: In Hollywood, anything's possible. However, it would mean removing much of the mystique surrounding the character. Part of the reason Wick works so well is the mysterious back story.

Question: When in the movie did it mention that Viggo's henchman was "Kirill?" Because his name is given on Wikipedia but never mentioned.

Answer: His name is never mentioned on screen but it is listed in the credits.

Continuity mistake: When John first meets Marcus in the cemetery, John's umbrella changes from a standard 8 rib when lowering the coffin, then a 22 rib close up, then back to 8 ribs in a far shot of the two men shaking hands. (00:04:15 - 00:05:45)

Viggo Tarasov: I heard you struck my son.
Aureilo: Yes, sir, I did.
Viggo Tarasov: And may I ask why?
Aureilo: Yeah, well, because he stole John Wick's car, sir, and, uh, killed his dog.
Viggo Tarasov: Oh.
