Factual error: Amy leaves a lot of her blood in the kitchen. Now, I've donated blood quite a few times and I can assure you that after that much bleeding nobody does all the things Amy did right afterwards. It wears you out completely and overcoming it requires resting as well as eating and drinking properly. Huge loss of liquid and big drop in blood-sugar level.

Suggested correction: This is a very anecdotal argument, obviously donating blood/losing a lot of blood affects different people differently (I am completely fine after donating) and Amy is hyperfocused on her scheme at that.

Corrected entry: Amy says she was abducted by Desi Collins and subjected to severe abuse, but when she returns she has a chic new haircut, which no one comments on.

Correction: She claims she was basically be kept as a sex-slave. She probably just told the police he was "grooming" her and doing what he pleased, which might include him changing her appearance to his liking.

Corrected entry: During the hospital interview with the detectives and police, Amy explains that she was kidnapped at the front door by Desi Collings. Neither lead detective Rhonda Boney nor any other cop enquires how massive amounts of her blood ended up on the kitchen floor, or how the living room was trashed.

Correction: Boney tries to ask Amy these questions, however she is shut down by superiors who obviously just want the case closed.

Corrected entry: When Nick comes home and find Amy gone he carries the cat in from outside. When the police arrive he takes them up to the master bedroom and when he opens up the previously closed doors the same cat is lying in the bed. How did it get in there?

Correction: There's a time jump from when he brings the cat inside, wondering where Amy is - to when he has already called the police, they've arrived, and he's waiting in a different room, I know I've put my cat inside a bedroom when I know workmen or police are coming over.

Continuity mistake: Some scenes were shot after Rosamund Pike had gained some weight, following the plot of the book correctly. However, they were edited together very badly, so that the extra pounds (most visible on her face) come and go several times during the montage showing what she did during the first two days of her "kidnapping." Pasty face with puffy cheeks, and sleek face with taut skin over jutting cheekbones switch back and forth in what amounts to a matter of hours in the film's plot.

Trivia: Tyler Perry was reportedly not aware of director David Fincher's body of work, and was cast without knowing Fincher was directing. Perry has stated that he likely wouldn't have taken the role if he knew about the darker work Fincher is generally involved in, but stated that he was glad he did take the role in the end.

Question: How is August 5th the day to take out the trash when July 5th was also?

Answer: The city may have fluctuating trash days. Or more likely, the July 5th schedule wasn't the regular pick up day due to the July 4th holiday.
