The scene where Raymond freaks out over the fire alarm was added during filming. The director felt like too many good things were happening between Charlie and Raymond, and the audience might get confused and begin to believe Raymond is getting better, when there is no real way to get better from Autism. Continuity: In the scene in the restaurant where Tom Cruise and Dustin Hoffman are trying to order breakfast, Hoffman's character fixes the salt and pepper shaker a certain way. In the next shot they are opposite the way he fixed them. Then in the next shot they are back to the way he had fixed them.
Continuity: In the diner, Charlie tells Ray to eat with fork and moves his hand away. A frame later, a new angle shows the hand back in place and him repeating the movement.
