Entry James Cromwell was a long time vegetarian, but decided to become vegan after playing Hoggett in Babe.
Entry When Babe is trying to talk to the sheep who won't listen to him at the contest, there is a shot of three sheep; two facing away and one facing toward him. Both times when he talks to them, the sheep on the right baaaa's at him, while the one on the left, to put it gently, relieves himself.
Entry In the scene where Babe and the duck try to steal the alarm clock and accidentally wake up the cat, the camera switches to a view outside the home. You can see two ducks doing what appears to be mating in the pond outside the house.
Entry When James Cromwell was handed the screenplay for Babe, he thumbed through it to see how many lines he had. He saw that he didn't have that many, he decided that he would do it as a nice easy film. What he didn't realize was that he would have more screen time in this film than any of his previous films, just not that many lines.
Entry When the news reporter at the sheep dog trials is shown, he says he's reporting from The King-Smith Valley, a tribute to Dick King-Smith who wrote the novel on which this film is based.
Entry The talking pig is a combination of 48 real Yorkshire pigs plus an animatronic double. A makeup artist added toupee and eyelashes to each, and computer digitization manipulated pictures of the snout to make the pig appear to talk.
