When the phone rings, Carrie tells Big that she never had one and does not know how to use it. However, in Episode 20 "The Man, The Myth, The Viagra", she receives a call from Miranda and whips out her cell phone from her purse to receive it. [Carrie says she doesn't (currently) have a cell phone, not that she *never* had one. And she may not know how to answer it because it is different than her previous one.
