Recut Star Trek trailer

I realise it's been a very long time since posting anything new here - that's almost entirely due to being away travelling across the US for the entirety of October, then taking a while to get back into the swing of things afterwards. Plus the Bond bloopers were proving quite popular, so I figured I might as well leave them there for a bit!

Anyway, I'm now getting back into the posting mentality, and I'm starting with a recut version of the Star Trek trailer - it's mostly identical, but there are a few new shots towards the end, and the final shot is of what most fans are probably keenest to see - I won't ruin it for you.

I'm not a rabid Star Trek fan, having watched pretty much none of the original series, although I enjoy TNG when it's on, and actually like most of the movies (I generally agree with the "even numbered ones being good" theory - while Nemesis seems to get some bad press I thought it was great). So with the new one I'm in two minds - I've got no particular devotion to Trek canon, but I'm a stickler for consistency (look at the site I run!). The plan is for them to tie old and new Star Trek together somehow, and provided they do that in a way that at least remotely hangs together, I won't then particularly mind if they bulldoze over most of the older Star Trek lore.

I'm sure there are purists who would argue that JJ Abrams should have just built a new sci-fi franchise from scratch rather than distort an existing one. While I see that point, being someone who's not that devoted to Star Trek, I can't summon up the will to really care - if it's good, then so be it. Clearly no-one particularly wanted to do a strict continuation of Star Trek as it was (otherwise they'd have done it), meaning that the choice was either do this sort of thing or nothing at all. And yes, no doubt some people would make the "nothing at all!" argument, and for them there's a simple solution - just don't go and see this movie. There - problem solved.
